I know the playoffs do not overshadow an entire season of play, but I think a lot has changed since the draft and even the deadline...

Following up on this article: http://www.celticsblog.com/2017/5/3/15533168/the-bulls-front-office-could-be-more-open-to-dealing-jimmy-butler-celtics-trade-nba-boston-chicago

What do you think the price for Butler is now?

The longer they hold onto Butler, the less value they can get (less years on Butler's contract = less leverage = less time for them to make a deal = more desperation). With the comments they just made about him not fitting in, it seems like they understand that sooner rather than later would be in the best interest of all parties (Butler, who wants to win, Bulls, who wants assets and to play coach's style, trade party, who can salvage Butler's prime).

Looking at our players, I think Rozier and Smart have improved their trade value this postseason with their play. The exact position of the Nets pick will probably be the biggest factor in this, but I can imagine a scenario where we don't even have to give it up.

I personally think a Smart / Crowder / 2017 nets pick gets it done now.

I agree the Bulls would do Crowder + Smart + Nets pick.

The question is, should we?

I'm sorry but we just beat the Bulls and they had Butler. This tells me the price drops significantly.

2017 Nets pick, 2 2nd round picks and Crowder. We could throw in Zeller if they push it.

That's it.

We should. I'd try like heck to sub out Rozier for Smart because I love Marcus' intangibles, but ultimately I'd do it. You'd be getting an All-Star on a value max contract, he'd be an upgrade over Jae in the starting line up and his ability to handle the ball + create allows you to stagger his minutes with IT's so he can be the ballhander with the second unit - minimizing the loss of Marcus. So all in all, you wouldn't be giving up anything irreplaceable.

In that proposal, we'd be keeping Brown and the 18 Nets pick so you'd be able to keep some nice future assets.

if the bulls are rebuilding it would make sense they would covert younger players over someone like crowder, i've been playing with the figures and came up with nets pick+brown+rozier+zizic for butler+lopez would make sense for both teams. trade would have to be completed with projected cap space. think you have to look at the love trade to model a butler trade, which was wiggins+bennet and a pick.

Crowder, AB, Rozier, and C's 2018 should get it done.

I don't think the Bulls want draft picks or need Smart/Brown. This deal also wouldn't hurt the C's slow build plan of keeping the development going and signing guys like Hayward. Bulls could probably also make the playoff still. I'd use Wade as the PG on offense and AB would cover the PG on defense.

C's
IT, Butler, Hayward*, Horford, Zizic
Smart, Fultz*, Nader, Brown, Yab, AJ*

Bulls
Wade, AB, Crowder, Portis, Lopez
Rozier, Valentine, Zipser, .......

It would be a dumb move to trade him but the Bulls are a dumb organization so I guess it's possible.  If you have Butler you could probably move Crowder to the 4 primarily and use a troika of him/Butler/Brown at the 3/4.  Couple that with IT and Horford and I think that's enough.

Not sure who Chicago would want but I'd do 17 Nets pick and a player + one of Yabusele or Zizic.  They should want Rozier but I'd start with him or Smart and maybe part with Bradley if they push it.  If they deal Butler they go straight to the lottery so they should be looking to build their roster with young guys.  Brown would be ideal for them but I wouldn't give him up.

The exact trade was Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, Thaddeus Young, and a $6.3 million trade exception, so it's arguable that a deal of Brown, Nets Pick, Crowder would be of comparable value. But I think you can also argue that Minny got a really, really good deal on a guy who wanted out and was entering the final year of his deal. On the flipside, you look at the Kings with Cousins and they didn't - in my opinion - get a good return. Unless you really believe in Buddy Hield

Butler has two years left on his contract, so more teams may be willing to take the chance on trying to convince him to stay as we saw with New Orleans and Cousins. I can see Philly and Denver entering the fray in addition to the Lakers and I think Chicago's management is more competent than Sacramento's (albeit not by much) and there's less attitude concerns with Butler - so this could turn into a bidding war.

I just don't think that Danny is going to trade any of the core PLUS 1st rounders for guys who can't get their teams over .500 in the regular season.

That's not really a fair barometer. Butler can only do so much with the talent put around him. It's pretty clear that the path to success with Butler is to surround him with 3&D players, instead the Bulls gave him 2 ball-dominant, non-shooting guards plus a coach who was completely in over his head, and he still got his team to the playoffs while putting up a monster individual season. I think if you swapped out IT and Butler, the Bulls wouldn't have fared much better because they aren't built to.

The question is, should we?

is he worth that now? how much would he help us? how many more people do we need after him? 1? 2? to seriously challenge that juggernaut team in cleveland
