I was sort of hoping the Clips would release him so he could sign on for the last game.  Apparently that's not going to happen.  Thoughts?

It would be cool if that happened. I know that they can do a purely ceremonial one-day thing with a press conference and whatnot, but I agree that it would've been awesome to see him on Boston's bench, in uniform, one last time.

I think at this time we can't do that with a player who has been with another team in the season.

I know!  Imagine if they had picked him in time to pass Havlicek on the all-time scoring list.  The Garden would have gone nuts.

I believe the plan was to sign him to a 1-day contract over the summer so he could retire a C -- not actually play again.  If he's able to contribute for the playoffs, Doc will want him on the Clips.

We'd also have to cut someone to sign him if we signed him now, which would really suck for whoever would get cut. I'm sure Pierce would not go for that.

I hope he comes back as an assistant of some kind. Imagine him working with Jaylen, Tatum, or Jackson...
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

To me, that's the main reason he is not on the roster now.  Danny just could not bring himself to cut Young, Mickey or Jackson.

They should cut him on principle. Also, he really should not have come back this year. I imagine he regrets it some.

The main reason is that he has a contract with the Clippers and will be in uniform in playoff games. If they have injuries or something, he can play. They are not going to release a player just for sentimental reasons, this is business.

Eh, maybe.  Kind of hard to walk away from $3.5MM, especially if you have the skill set to do the job and you are not asked to play very much.  Free money, essentially.  That would be my perspective if I was PP.

The whole one day contract is sentimental drivel!  I will always think of him as a Celtic. and don't need some gimmick like the above.

I'd like to see him on the roster for game 1 next year and retire right then and there....maybe even put his number up then as well.

I'd like to see the Clips waive him-  so the Celtics could sign him for the playoffs.
Might give the 2nd unit some toughness- and another 3 point shooter.
If nothing else he'd be great  for pre-game warmups.
