When you have lots of picks and few roster spaces, draft and stash makes a lot of sense.  See how they develop overseas before committing a roster space to them.  The D League route Nader took is less likely as players are foregoing significant salary to play in the D league.

I think so, It's the best route to using our 2nd rounder rather than just cutting them as the season starts

With the new CBA, teams can have 17 players, 2 of them have to designated for developmental league assignment.  So there's your 2 stash players I guess.

Memory tells me that the C's have 3 2nd round picks so maybe there's the Euro that they have to stash.

If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me, I'd love to learn how the new system will work.

I think you're correct, but the one thing I'm unsure of is if 2 of those players have to go to the G-League or if they can just go to any non-NBA League.  I think that they can go anywhere, but there is a chance that the league wants to encourage as many people to go to the G-League as possible to up it a bit.

Some of those second rounders are really tantalizing - I have found that when the top of the draft is as good as this year's, the scouts are more likely to miss some of the talent out there.

For instance, there are two French players: Jonathan Jeanne (C) and Alpha Kaba (PF) that both look really good with prototypical size that are absolutely in range for our second round picks.  We could sign them both and send them both to the same French team and start them together right away.  Or even the Red Claws....

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It is so dumb. Each NBA team should just have their own D-League affiliate that they have complete control over with more fluidity between rosters. I guess the two player thing they are instituting this year is a step in that direction, but teams like the Cs shouldn't be punished because they acquired 'too many' draft picks. Let the players teams choose learn directly from each franchise's coaches and also give them a living wage.
