One of the most frustrating side effects of a blow out loss in the playoffs is people coming in here and relentlessly posting that we should trade the entire team for draft picks.

It's just unrealistic.

Anyone is tradable in the NBA.

That said, you have to ask yourself a question:  if Lebron can play at this level for 3 more years, why on earth would you resign players like IT and AB who are showing you that, in their primes, they have almost zero chance a beating him?

If your answer is that you don't want to resign them then you have to trade them, and more likely than not that would be for young projects or draft picks.

Weak, i don't care how much of a hater I am of Smart.

Nope, you don't. I can't be the only one here who tunes out everything you post about Smart. Actually, I tune out everything you post, period. You aren't just a Smart hater. You seem to hate the Celtics as a franchise. You seem to be a troll. Your account seems to be a joke at everyone else's expense.

And you are the biggest homer. One who sees the faults but refuses to admit them.

At least I don't lie about the players abilities.

You can't predict how long James's reign will be. I don't think you can move big Al. Crowder fits well because he can transition from starter to bench guy as Brown grows. I'd trade Bradley or Smart (whoever you want to keep long term, for me that means good bye Bradley) and I'd listen to offers on thomas, but I think if you can't get much value for Thomas keep him. Exist as a pretender so when/if the opportunity presents itself to leap to contention you can make that leap.

So trade Bradley or Smart. Listen to offers on everyone, expect to keep everyone other than AB/Smart

Next years roster I'd like to see:

IT
Horford
Brown
Fultz
Hayward?
Guerschon
Zizic
Smart
Rozier
Crowder
Green
Olynyk
Nader?

And fill in the rest through trade and FA.  I think you trade Bradley before payday and get some value back, but you keep him or Smart for defense, so it's Smart since there's still upside.  You keep Crowder's contract and Green since he's cheap and adds offense.  Make a determination on Kelly by the deadline next year.  This is a balance between upside, a current core and good contracts.

Funny dude you are.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

people act like we would be getting rid of smart, rozier, brown, fultz, zizic, yabu, brooklyn 2018, on top of which we will have even more picks or prospects. we probably keep horford also.  So if we trade AB and IT so be it. can eventually add a FA or two when the young pups are established and ready to go on a long run. I am playing the long game.  DOn't go all in until we are ready for a 10 year run.

Wow what an overreaction, what about "if Lebron can play at this level until he is 70?"

LBJ is human and humans age, if you can sign Hayward there's 3 stars plus 3 top-rookies
that will be a contender for so many years that LBJ can't not do, he isn't going to beat time and neither LOVE or Erving will be a 2-way dominant player
You can enjoy every year 1st seed and ECF at least and eventually win a ring

I began this thread before the playoff started.  Even before that I was post of the growing minority that said we shouldn't max IT.  As far back as last year I was posting that he wasn't in the long term future.  I made this thread to try and show in a clear realistic way that IT's days are numbered. I reposted to it because now it seems that sentiment is picking up steam.

This is not trading the entire team for draft picks.  It is the natural progression of younger more talented players replacing older players.  I believe we will get Hayward who is much better than Crowder and will play serious minutes.  So where's that leave Crowder?  As a 6'6 pf?   Not likely as Zizic and/or the 2018 pick is going to allow Horford to pay the 4 where he belongs.  Crowder will only be playing spot minutes st the 3/4, come the 2018-2019 season.  If he's not traded before his contact is up he'll most likely walk for nothing.  He's getting paid less then Zeller now, he's going to want to get paid. Also we saw how he reacted to the fans cheering for Hayward back when we played Utah, I imaging he's not going to be all that pleased with backing him up.

Fultz will absolutely replace IT at the point.  IT can start over him all year and make another all star team, but he will not get a super max deal in Boston.  All those who think he'll take a reasonable near max contract for 3 years indeed of a 5 year super max need to understand that he really wants to get paid.  IT makes less then Zeller now. The NBA just said he is a super max player, to offer him less then even the regular max is a serious slap in the face to all that he's done.  A fringe playoff team will offer him the normal max and he'll take it.

I'm also not opposed to keeping Bradley and Smart to come of the bench.  They make a nice back up guard combo, but Rozier and Bradley would be good too. So, one of those three is going to have to go.

IT will get a max from Danny. Maybe not a supermax but a max. He will play alongside Fultz until Fultz proves he is a star in his own right and then IT is probably traded. But that won't be for a few years. I expect Fultz to struggle out of the gate and come on in the second half of next ywar and see an advancement in 2018-19. He probably will start to look like a future star in his third year and then IT will go after that season as Fultz comes into stardom in his fourth year.
