Is IT the most controversial player in Celtics history? I mean think about it. I can’t recall a past or present Celtic player that caused so much disagreement amongst fans.

Is he worth the max/ is he not worth the max?
Should the Celtics even resign him?
Would he be better fit as a sixth man?
Is he part of our bigger future plan?
Is his ego getting to him?
Is he turning into a team cancer?

Some people love him and feel he has earned every cent coming his way, some people like him but don’t want to waste a max on him, some people want his head on a spike.
Has there ever been a player on the Celtics that has caused so much disagreement?

It's amazing to me how the scale can tip in so many directions for one player. I know my opinion of him differs then with some of my closest fans. Put me in the I like him but don't want to pay him max money bracket.

He's not controversial at all - among people who understand what they're watching.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Antoine was my initial thought as well when writing the post.. Difference is by the time we moved on from Toine it was clear this was Pierce's team. This is IT's team, there is no Pierce.

Well, a few things:

I don't think IT is as polarizing as you make him out to be.

He is worth a max contract its just some fans don't want Danny to sign him to a max contract. Mark my words, IT is getting a max contract barring injury.

IT is a starter. Very few are still sticking to the IT should be a sixth man opinion and quite honestly, I question those people's basketball knowledge.

Regarding the ego and cancer comments, thats based entirely on a bad week for the Celtics and a couple of comments. A winning streak will cause all that talk to disappear.

So in my opinion I just don't see IT as being polarizing. I just see some people who don't like him, his game or believe in his future. I get that. I feel the same way about Kelly Olynyk.

The me first attitude is what helps IT push for the buckets we need. I said it before, he is a hero when the shots fall and villain when they don't but regardless that mind set he has is the reason for both. As Rozier said, He's our guy so we have to stand by him despite the mistakes. I'm for a 3 year extension at max $ even if we draft Fultz. I'm in on IT.

Well ya I think most here would be for a 3 year max for Isaiah only problem is that Isaiah would be a fool to accept that offer. He's going to have at least a few 4 year max offers from other teams

I disagree completely.  You take the money if it is offered.  He is at his peak prime now, one injury, one down season, one poor postseason and that 4-year deal might never be there.

I apologize if this has already been posted somewhere, but looks like IT is trying to smooth things over. Good on him AND Coach Stevens.

Quote
"It happens. I didn't mean to throw anybody under the bus," Thomas said before the Celtics went through a shootaround at the University of San Francisco while preparing for Wednesday's game against the Golden State Warriors. "That's not me. I just said how I felt at that time. My job is just to move on and do my job and don't make it a distraction, because it's not.

"I was frustrated, I thought we should have won -- the last two games -- and that's just how I felt. I was always taught to speak my mind. But for the most part, I don't want to be a distraction. My teammates know that. It's bigger than how I feel, I guess. I'm trying to move forward and look forward to tonight, and hopefully we can get a win
."

Grown Man talking. Just what I want from a Leader - one who owns his mistakes.

Comments from "The" Leader - Coach Stevens. Seems conciliatory about the whole thing and ready to move on.

Quote
Stevens said he didn't consider Thomas' comments an issue until they became a national story.

"At the end of the day, I didn't put much thought into it until it became a deal that everybody was talking about," Stevens said. "And, at that point in time, I heard from Isaiah pretty quickly. So again, I don't put a lot of stock [into it]. I understand the emotions and how high they run at the end of games, win or lose. And that's something that -- I have to go out there every day and talk after the game too and it's not an easy thing to do all the time. And so I get it.

"And I'm OK with the fact that people are going to say some things. And you may have to have that moment where you communicate back and forth. But I don't put too much stock into it to be honest

More from CBS - about the Line-up experimenting questions

Quote
That may be the way that he views things, right? Maybe it's the way that he saw that stuff play out," Stevens said. "But from our standpoint, the other night it was more about bodies available and foul trouble. So it's part of it. Hey, we didn't play well."

Stevens later added: "I'm not worried about it. Like I said, I know it's something to talk about. One of the things I've learned in the NBA is that you have 82 games, and so you kind of ride this roller coaster of emotions game to game and everything else. But I think you just have to do your best regardless of scenario to move onto what's next. And again, Isaiah reached out to me really quickly. If it would have been reversed where I would have had to initiate it, I think that may be an issue. But it wasn't. I didn't lose any sleep over it."

Finally - MORE of IT4 owning up to his mistake

Quote
I gotta do a better job of calming down after tough games, tough losses. I'm always going to be me. And that's the only way I know how," Thomas said. "Like I said to Brad, I'm not here to throw anybody under the bus because I wouldn't want anybody to do that to me. That's just how I felt at that time. Yes, I have to do a better job of it and I know that. I'm here to be Isaiah Thomas and lead and win games. And I know if we win that wouldn't have even been a problem."

Reaction from his teammates

Quote
Thomas, who also seemed to suggest that Crowder hesitated too long on a game-changing inbound pass at the end of a loss to Phoenix on Sunday (something Crowder owned when he spoke on it), stressed that none of his teammates had approached him about his comments, and they understood his frustration.

"Nobody's even talked about it. We're not even worried about that. It's a distraction because [the media] keep talking about it," Thomas said with a playful jab at reporters. "Nobody's even brought it up one time. That's what happens, I guess. Like he said, it's how I am now. I gotta do a better job and I will, and I understand that."

I love IT4 and this team. I'm hoping that in lieu of Danny NOT making a trade that we can ADD to this group in the offseason - either through the draft OR FA.

Special Coach, Team and PG we have here.

So maybe he's a max guy. Lots of max guys never win titles, and many former max guys do - after they're not getting max anymore. Think Iggy and Antoine. Signing a max guy can make or break a franchise's title dreams.

IT is more a max guy in the tradition of those many teams that shoot themselves in the foot by signing talent.

Good for IT. This is how one becomes a true leader.

He clearly was a bit too volatile and emotional after the past two games and said some things he shouldn't have. It happens to everyone. We're fallible humans. But just like the Smart bench blowup, the fact that he owned up to his mistake quickly and realized he was just being too emotional shows growth, character, and leadership.

Good for IT.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

He should start the next game on the bench.  No player is bigger than the team, even if his observations have some truth to them.  The little man is getting a little big for his britches.

I don't think any team puts their 30/6 player on a bench.

It's not like IT broke team rules and started a legit fist fight or anything...

He rubbished the head coach in the media, after throwing Crowder under the bus for the fatal error at the end of the Suns game.

This is kinda what I'm expecting—a loss, followed by mass hysteria. Should be fun to watch! ;D
