I think this move is beyond desperation.

Sully can't spread the floor he is shooting 32% from the field and 17% from the trey.

His father recently admitted he had weighed as much as 315 during the playoffs:

Quote
In an article in Sunday's Boston Herald, Sullinger's father, Satch Sullinger, noted his son's ongoing weight issues, with the 6-foot-9 forward, according to the Herald, reaching 315 pounds during last season's playoffs with the Celtics. Satch Sullinger said the family had an intervention in 2015 that included sending his son to John Lucas' Houston workout facility in Houston.

"It didn't work," Satch Sullinger said. "He just wasn't losing weight, man. But now reality has hit him. Only you can change the image you have created for yourself."

What Ainge should have done is got someone at the trade deadline.  He did not life moves on and we have had some bad luck and a losing streak but I think things will bounce back.

Signing Sully is a mistake on many levels.   He knows the system, one would presume he can still rebound but he still can't run, is slow and can't shoot.   He basically let us down in the playoffsthe last time he was here.  He by all accounts is a great locker room guy but he sets a lazy slothful example to the younger players.   How much did that big body help us the last time he played for us?

Some guys love food more than basketball and rarely do they ever get their act together.

No sully.  Wish him luck but glad we sent him away.  Never put the extra effort in on defense and a guy with that much talent looks very limited on the court.  There is a reason why he's in his current situation. He should love playing in europe, good food

who can fault what you have posted-but we desperately need rebounding and backup for amir
what is sully's weight now-
zeller had that one good season killing it from mid range and rolling to the basket-then the curse of out of shape david lee and zeller has never recovered
i thought he was going to build on that not regress to the point i hold him to now-

Kelly had 7 rebounds in around 20 minutes last night.  I can't picture sully on this team giving his effort while playing with bradley, smart and crowder.  Those three guys exemplify hard all out effort on defense.
I agree we should probably be looking at a vet big as mickey's roster spot is useless.  I don't think it should be sullinger, have to see if a team signs him at all.  Could be on his way to europe.

I don't think DA is interested in short term fixes.
He will pull the trigger if he thinks a player can help long term ..

this is just silly as Danny would just cut someone who wasn't going to be on the team next year anyway to sign someone that isn't going to be on the team next year, but that might actually help this year.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Yabusele is better than Sullinger.

Not silly at all. unless you know what Danny plans for each one on our roster.
We may think Mickey sucks but he may have some value to DA. maybe he is doing great in practice...who knows.

A sully in playing shape (or at least his level of playing shape) would help this team.  He knows the system.  He adds rebounding.   He adds a low post defender that can keep from being pushed around.

I just think the longer we see him sitting out there, the less I think teams think he can get himself into playing shape.

I hate to be the one to break this news but Sully's NBA career is most likely over.  He failed to improve as a player and has struggled to stay under 300 lbs.  On top of that he's now had back and foot surgeries...

I'll be shocked if he ever plays in the NBA again.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
Wasn't his own father just saying he doesn't know if Sullinger wants it?

Quote
Told that the Celtics haven’t ruled his son out, Satch Sullinger said, “Not sure that would change anything for him. He has to make up his mind about what’s important . . . All I know for sure is that the signs aren’t good. Even if Phoenix kept him, that wouldn’t have made it any better for him. He still has to face himself."

TP....irrefutable logic that many don't get, partly because of attachment to players and partly because certain players aren't "true Celtics", whatever the hell that means.

Sign Sanders and Sully.

Cut Mickey and Young, both useless and not with the team next year for sure. NEVER let Zeller suit up again and use him for the only thing he's good for:trade filler as a non-guaranteed. We need bigs bad, but I'd let DJ dress before I ever let Zeller dress again. He's a disgrace to the green.

How bad could Sully and Sanders possibly be? If Sully rolls like a donut down the floor at 2 miles an hour and Sanders is zonked out from the other green, they can't be any useless than Mickey, Zeller and Young.

If they get out of line, cut their asses, no big deal. Get some D-Leaguers in here.
