The player we missed at the deadline

Let me start by saying I have no problem standing pat at the deadline. I am against any trade that includes Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown. To me those two guys need to remain celtics for life. Obviously we all would of liked to see us make a move but only if it made sense for the present and future without sacrificing too much. When it comes to the Brooklyn pick I get more excited everyday as march madness is around the corner with the choices being endless.

What I love most about Danny is that he doesn't cave in to all the outside noise and understands we have the best hand in the NBA when it comes to dictating the direction of our future for years to come. We are fortunate enough to have so many avenues to choose from. When it comes to the draft I'm all in on Fultz but the knee injury is concerning. If we are going to invest our number 1 pick in someone I prefer the injury history be clean as its come to bite teams down the road. Obviously his talent and potential we would roll the dice. I'm so intrigued by the idea of adding Jayson Tatum to this core if we don't land the first pick especially if the kid shows out during the tour by.

When it comes to the deadline I believe we really did miss out on one of future bigs especially with him being shipped out so cheap. The big I am referring to is Jusuf  Nurkic. Denver just wanted to move him and did so with his value being Mason Plumlee and a future pick... Plumlee is an expiring deal and I believe it was only a second round pick. Either way I would of gave up one of our many first along with an expiring for this kid. He's a versatile big and wouldn't effect our space and pace style of play. He is off to a wonderful start in his new change of scenery.  Such a small move would of paid off in a big way for us. lacking in a young big man to move forward with the culture. He is am example of low risk high reward and I don't understand why we didn't jump all over this move

Very similar game to Zizic. May be why we didn't pursue. Figure he wasn't going to take us any further this season.

I agree the guy I really want is Jason Tatum. He looks like he can grow into a PG13 or Pippen body type and style of play. If you have Tatum and Brown on the wings that is a very athletic team. Tatum can be a playmaker and scorer.

I was against going for Nurkic but his cost was very low. Could have been that Ainge was holding out for bigger things at the time.

However it could also have been that Denver like Plumlee. What could we have offered that we'd be happy giving up but would help their playoff push?

I wasn't even thinking about zizc but those two moving forward for cheap with our expirings of jerebko and Johnson this year while Zeller becomes an expiring {tradable contract of 8 million) this year.

nurkic with TWO huge OFFENSIVE rebounds in the final 2 minutes which was crucial and probably won them the game on back to back possessions in their win tonight against OKC.. something we lack in a big way he went 18 and 15 with 5 blocks

At the time of the trade I had a similar thought, but I think Denver was really keying in on Plumlee. Mason is a unique big in that he plays a very similar style to Jokic. Namely, he can facilitate from the high post as well as rebound at a high rate. He can't shoot free throws or really score effectively, but his style of play allows Denver to have 48 minutes a game playing the smae style, which is huge and something that having Nurkic didn't allow. They actually gave up a first with nurkic for Plumlee, which makes me think they really targeted him.

Ainge wants cap space. We would not have taken Nurkic even if offered for free.

First 5 games with Portland, Nurkic is putting up nice numbers. In 30 minutes a game, 14-9-4 with 1.8 steals and 1.8 blocks. He's also shooting .583.

He does a lot of exactly what the Celtics need but I think the Celtics are only looking for versatile players. I remember reading somewhere that their #1 goal was to get guys who can guard multiple positions. That's not Nurkic.

I agree with you on Danny and on standing pat, though you have to give credit to Wyc too because owners ultimately can screw everything up (ie, Sacramento).

On Nurkic:  he was moved because he hurt the Nuggets, and they are a fringe playoff team.  Players like that are always tantalizing but honestly he would barely crack the rotation.

He has been misused and is in the worst possible system for his present day development(both physically and skill wise) has more potential, on both sides, than people want to admit. He also would have given us a legit CENTER to bring into the playoffs ( not to mention groom for the future). He is much longer and bigger than Tristan Thompson and almost all the centers we will face in the playoffs.

Plus it is most likely we will be getting a gaurd in the draft...hopefully Fultz but maybe Smith if we drop in the lotto.
