Agree that they're keepers.  Would still trade both for Butler if it saves us Brooklyn picks.

That literally goes against the first part of your statement LOL.

I wouldn't.

If you're offered Smart + Brown + filler and some random 1sts for Butler or George, no 2017 or 2018 Brooklyn 1st included, you jump on that immediately.  Without thinking.

No you are completely wrong and this makes zero sense.

Explain.

Marcus Smart is a good player. Jaylen Brown will be a good player.

The odds of either of them becoming as good as Butler or George is maybe <20%
None of the two can be as good as Butler in regard of trashing his own teammates

or starting all star games.

I love Brown and Smart. They are gamers. I dont want to trade either of them. I irrationally over value both of them.

Brown and Smart are superior in term of intangibles.  On a team filled with that stuff, they shine through

At Jaylen's age, Jimmy Butler was still 2 years away from playing in the NBA and was also a further 2 years away from producing at the clip that Jaylen currently is. He also did not demonstrate the athleticism and offensive gamesense that Jaylen already has until he was probably 23.

The fact that you have 1. Made that call and 2. Attributed some sort of % likelihood of Jaylen reaching Jimmy's potential after one year in the league boggles my mind.

I agree with the thread title. That is all.

They're nice, gritty players. Time will tell whether they're on the Delonte  / Tony level, or if they're guys who can be franchise centerpieces.

God no what a horrendously bad deal for us. We get a slight upgrade over Avery Bradley and give away our two best young prospects. Might as well sign AB to a $25 million x 5 year deal and keep them.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Should I be surprised about Brown? Nope. Everyone by now should know I was on the brown train since the draft combine began. Received a lot of hate for my opinion. Funny enough people kept throwing Bender at my face who has had an awful year and is now injured. Just going to give myself a tp.

Also, loving the hate on Rozier. I'm still high on him. I think he'll figure it out. Keep the hate coming, my boy t-sizzle will humiliate the haters at the end of the day.

Time will indeed tell, but I think Jaylen's already a better offensive player than Tony ever was, and his D seems to be improving as well.

I'm not giving up just yet on Rozier. He seems to have a knack for rebounding, and has shown flashes of being an above-average penetrator and finisher.

I was ecstatic to see Rozier THROW the ball @ Kyrie last night-! (or was it a different Cav-?)
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

It's going to be really hard to miss this year lol. Last year was amazingly awful. It was one of the most difficult drafts to evaluate. Fultz is number 1 for me. I'm starting to prefer Jackson over Ball tbh. I don't think the Celtics need him as much as the other two prospects. Also I think Ball can average a lot of assists a game, but not sure if he will ever average more than 15 and 10, while not shooting as efficiently as Nash. The Kidd comps aren't good because Kidd was an amazing defender, and he had KG type leadership. He really could change the cutlure.

Jaylen Brown is figuring this league out...He has Supreme quickness and athleticism.
Gonna be a Dangerous Player real soon.
Brown strikes me as a guy who in Year 1 looks to fit in and contribute (which he has). But I also get the impression that as things move along, he's going to become a bigger and bigger part of what this team does at both ends of the court evolving first into obvious starter and eventually all star caliber.  In time the offense will run through him the way it did Larry Bird and Paul Pierce.

Right now he makes a few judgement mistakes that all rookies to tend to make but look for that to disappear over time.  Once he improves his 3 point shooting from other areas besides the side (the one spot he's pretty good at right now) watch out.  He's already got a natural inclination to get to the basket.  And his dad being 7 feet tall, I still expect him to grow.

No way in the world I deal this kid at this point.  His potential upside is huge.

Fans are funny, and pretty simple in their thinking.  Good = keeper, bad = trade 'em.  That's not the it works.  First, there are only a handful of players that are untradeable and none of them play for the Celtics.  So while fans may like smart and brown, there's nothing contradictory about saying one would trade them for the right return.  Obviously the right return is in the eye of the beholder.

As for butler, no issues trading smart for him.  Smart is "try hard" guy.  For those of you that miss the point, it also means he limited in talent.  Those guys, regardless of how hard they try, can be replaced.  As for brown, I love the potential.  But he is a lot longer away from stardom than many around here seem to think.  Nothing close to a guarantee.  And even at his peak, I agree that brown may not ever reach butler or George's level.

And no, you can't use the start of brown and butlers career to infer that brown will be better.  If that were the case, there would be a whole lot of guys better than butler.  Michael carter Williams would be better the butler.  Tyreke Evans would be better than butler.  Mike Miller would have been better than butler.

So I think brown plus smart for butler is reasonable trade.  If anyone said no, it might be the Bulls.
