Chris Forsberg: Celtics coach Brad Stevens on @ZoandBertrand today suggested the Celtics were close to a minor trade on deadline day: “I was actually walking into practice on Thursday morning thinking there was a move that was about to be made. Not a big one but a relatively smaller one, I guess would be the right way to put it… Like I said, I thought we were close on one but then that didn’t materialize.” pic.twitter.com/7KwyFIJOyd 5 hours ago – via Twitter ESPNForsberg

Knowing Brad's quirky sarcasm, a minor deal would probably been for Paul George

that rumor baffled me. Green has a big role on a playoff team.

They (Memphis) weren't sure they were gonna pay to keep him. I think we could have had him if we included a first, but I don't think I would have done that (despite the fact that he was probably my #1 target at the trade deadline)
I'm bitter.

As some have said, probably Green. I guess the other one could have been Okafor? I'm guessing it's a guy who didn't end up moving

Green or Tucker.  There have been some rumors that Boston made an offer better than Toronto's for Tucker, but Ryan McD went with optics and chose Toronto's package as a result of the IT trade.  I don't completely buy that story, but it shouldn't have been difficult to beat Toronto's offer, and maybe they thought they had.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Who knows how serious he's being or what 'minor' means.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

It was Noel, according to a podcast I heard this morning.

I think it was the vertical with Mannix and Bobby Marks.

I'm not sure what we were offering, Mannix said something about the 2019 Clippers pick which seems fair and is a far better that what Dallas gave to Philly.

The issue with trading for Noel was never about what it would take to get him. We could have easily paid more than this if we viewed him as a serious piece of the puzzle. It was always about whether we wanted to do what it took to resign him.
