Danny Ainge said Guerschon Yabusele likely to play for @maineredclaws this yr. Austin Ainge told me Ante Zizic can come to #Celtics next yr.

That will be nice to have him out of China and see how he performs in the D-League. The Hawks just signed Red Claws starting PF Ryan Kelly to an end of the season deal. Opens up a space for Yabu to start immediately.

To be clear:
Zizic will join the team this summer
Yabusele will sign in D-League, may not be in NBA until 2018
Nader staying in D-League

I'm interested to see if C's hit Yabu with one of the #16-17 roster spots for D-League players just to keep him over in America but out of the NBA for 1 more year.

Just curious if this means he could be added to the c's roster before the playoffs if an injury occurs or we release someone?

I've been trying to figure this out for certain (I've spent a few hours too many looking at the new CBA), but I don't believe that the Celtics can maintain his draft rights under a Two-Way Player contract.

Note: This doesn't mean he'd be eligible to be called up to the Celtics. Likely just on a D-League contract.

Hopefully he does join the D-League (I refuse to call it the G-League, at least for now), it could be a step up from the competition in China and would give him exposure to the Celtics' system. It'd be nice to see what he and Nader can do together.

It's possible that he could be added this year (and it was possible before this news, too), but I feel confident in saying that it won't happen.  Danny isn't gonna sacrifice a year of Yabu's contract to bring him in now, especially since his only exposure to the Celtics' system was summer league.  He'll probably get brought in over the summer, but there's no reason to sacrifice a year of control for a couple months of him riding the pine

It's definitely confusing. From what I got from the "Twitter Experts" explaining the expanded roster, teams are allowed to sign players to a 16th and 17th roster spot to play in the D-League so that teams like the C's can keep control over all of these picks and offer them a better opportunity than playing overseas and being stashed. I'm not sure how this applies to players who have already been drafted or if there are any eligibility issues.

reminds me of an Anthony Mason/David West type big man . His boxing definitely helped devlop his great footwork.

I think it might work for second-round picks, but I'm really not certain about 1st round picks.  The CBA is like 700 pages, so I might have missed it, but inasmuch as I've read the sections on Two-Way contracts and First round picks, it really didn't look allowable to me.  I very much hope I'm wrong, of course.

If the Celtics want to keep Yab off the books for one more year (which would clear a very important $1.4 million off the cap), I think they need to find an international team for him to sign with for another season (and do so in the first few days of July.)

That's interesting.  Most likely it would just be getting him over here in the same sense that Nader is on the Red Claws.

With that said, there could be some value to signing him to a contract this season, and I have wondered if Danny had this in mind when he did not have them submit the letter to the league saying they will not sign with the C's during this league year, and therefore removing their cap holds.

IF Yabu were to sign this year, there would be 2 consequences:

1. (negative) He would burn a year of his rookie contract.  Obviously this is bad for the C's.
2. (positive) He would be locked in under the current Rookie scale.  If he signs after July 1st, he would have to sign on next years rookie scale which jumps considerably under the new CBA, eating up more cap space for the C's.

So the question is...would Danny give up a year of control of Yabu, just to save some extra space under the cap for this summer (and the following 3 years)?

Another layer of this is that given Yabu's development level, you could argue that the C's would get a better deal on Yabu's second contract by having it come up earlier.  But that is a big risk to base any sort of plan around.

Obviously, this is a very unlikely scenario, but I think it is something that a creative GM like Danny would have at least considered knowing that the rookie scale was going to jump in the new CBA.

He just has to sign a non-nba contract, and the C's retain his rights each year.  But a 2-way deal would be an NBA contract, so he would be on the C's roster and cap.  Because he was a first round pick, he wouldn't be eligible for a 2-way contract though.  First round picks have a standard contract.

Does anyone know when his season in china ends?

They just started their playoffs today.  His team is the #3 seed.  The first round is best of 5, and the final two are best of 7.  So it could be next week, or it could be a few weeks longer, depending how the Shanghai Sharks do (they lost game one today.)

Right, but the only other non-NBA contract out there is the D-league, and that can't be signed until November.  So to keep him off the books, it needs to be with an international team, and that contract needs to be signed before his cap hit can be cleared.

I also saw that Jimmer didn't play, not sure if he is injured or not. Hopefully his team looses in the first round so that he can get a decent sample size in the D-League
