There a reason this team has no rim protectionbor rebounding, it goes by the name of daniel ainge

2nd big we could of had for peanuts, i convinced he never trade for a big now

Noel would not make this team a contender.

True but we could have gotten him cheap it looks like.  And he would have made us better.

Top 18 protected? If it's that way every year in future protections, then that pick might take forever to convey lol

I would wait to see what he gets paid next season before saying we could have gotten him cheap.

Dallas gambling that they can re-sign Noel - and with Cuban as the sales guy I think there's a pretty good chance.  Too bad.  I would have loved Noel here but no way Philly was making us better long term.

Not really a gamble, he's a restricted free agent. They'll match the offer sheet.

Protections on picks usually decrease every year they don't convey.  I'd bet on something like top 18 in 2017, lottery (top 14) in 2018, top 10 in 2019, and top 5 in 2020, either becoming unprotected in 2021 or two seconds if it didn't convey before that
I'm bitter.

i dont get it for philly - giving up noel for basically a late first round pick doesn't seem like a great return to me
is it bc they figured they'd lose him soon for nothing anyway?

It is precisely because they'd lose him for nothing.

I think people are overlooking Anderson. He's an excellent wing prospect.

He will be a restricted free agent and they don't want to get into a bidding war for a backup center for them.

ok got it yeah too bad he wouldve fit good here. although pressure of playing in home city could've been tough anyway.

Usually, but not always.  The Mavs had a pick once with like five straight years of top-20 protection.  I could see multiple years of top-18.  I doubt the protection ever goes below top 12.

Do they not get his restricted rights in this trade? If they get his restricted rights can't they just match whatever he gets offered? That doesn't really make it an angle.

Also, how are people high on Justin Anderson? He is finishing up his second season, is 23, and has shot 27% and 30% across his first season and 2/3rds. Not to mention, he couldn't manage to get serious run on a Dallas team that has been decimated by injuries and playing below .500 ball all season.

If the pick ends up being a late 1st next year how is this exciting for the 76ers? Spending a top 6 player on an injured center. Between playing alongside okafor and a logjam at center they really struggled to develop him (he didn't even rehab with the team cause he was upset for part of his recent injury). Now they flip him for a low level prospect and what could amount to a mid to late first? Sure Anderson could be Crowder all over again, I acknowledge that (or something crazy could happen with the pick). However, overall the most likely outcome seems like a pretty poor return for an athletic young center they spent the 6th pick on and missed a season from by being injured.

Jeepers, you've already upgraded him from very good to excellent in this thread.  I'd think you'd need some kind of shooting ability to be called an excellent wing prospect.  Anderson was the 23rd pick a couple of years ago.  As a college junior, he was expected to be able to contribute pretty quickly, but 1.75 seasons into his career he still couldn't get into 15 minutes of game action on a not very good team.  I'm sure he'll get more minutes in Philly by default, but he has not shown himself to be anything resembling excellent.
