Okay, I love what IT has done this year, but I have a hard time with his defensive issues come playoff time.  Who is he going to guard?

So what if something like this happens:

IT, a non Brooklyn first, and filler for Butler (I think IT is a good fit for Chicago)
Brooklyn 2017, Bradley, Zizic, other picks, for George.

Leaves us with:

Smart
Butler
George
Johnson/Olynyk
Horford

Rozier
Brown/Green
Crowder
Johnson/Jerebko
Zeller

I think that starting lineup could be great defensively and good enough offensively to compete with anyone.  And we still have room for growth moving forward with the Brooklyn 2018, Brown and Smart.

A team needs more than just wings to win. Getting weaker at PG while not filling our big man hole doesn't seem practical to me.

Chicago is trying to rebuild if they deal Butler. Why take back IT and no BKN Pick?

Makes zero sense...

And the front court is still pretty weak.

Absolutely - PG and Butler are both much better than IT.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Good point about the big men, that could be critical.  I'm high on Smart at the moment, so I'm not sure how much of a dropoff we'd see at the pg.  What we'd lose on offense I think we'd nearly pick up defensively.

I'd be happy with that.

The 4 games we played without IT this season tell a different story (although the offense during those games would not be comparable to the offense in the team with Butler and George)
I'm bitter.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
And this thread is where it could all get real as we find out the IT believers and non-believers.

But, yeah, I would do it. I'd rather deal next year's BKN pick so that we could take a top flight PG and also switch out Zizic for Yab, but we keep Crowder, Smart, Brown Rozier,, and Horford as well as one BKN pick - very scary team.
