I've always thought we won the 2008 title in spite of Doc, not because of him.

I vividly remember him switching his rotations in the 1st round vs. Atlanta---(benching Eddie House--who was awesome in the regular season), Screwing up our chemistry...he didn't change back until halfway through the 2nd round against Cleveland, I believe. The team got it's mojo back just in time.
I've always though we should have rolled over everyone in the playoffs--just like the regular season and Game 6 of the finals.

I don't disagree with him, but BBD is the last guy who should be disparaging others.
i would agree. he was a second round choice by ainge who turned out to be a fair nba play for a few years, partly because doc used his limited skills well within the celtics schemes.

big baby has made over $34,000,000 in his brief career. good for him. but part of that he owes to having doc as his coach.

davis gains nothing good by saying things such as this. i dont know why he goes off in this manner, aside from being a big baby of course.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

my opinion of big baby is he's one of those players that needed a coach like doc to bring out his best but he doesn't realize it.

I don't think Davis's take is really all that outrageous.  Is Doc a good coach?  Of course, a very good coach.  But I do think, in hindsight, we may have overrated him a bit while he was here.

Now having said that, Glen Davis of all people should probably not be the one to call out Doc.  Had it not been for Doc, as we've seen, Glen Davis's career in the league would've been A LOT shorter.  If he really felt this way, why did he agree to go to the Clippers for those 2 years?  Kind of odd for him specifically to throw Doc under the bus like that.

TP: I don't get it either. Whether you like Doc or not, he's all class. My feeling BBD regrets speaking out.

If Glenn is thinking of applying for an assistant coaching vacancy sometime in the NBA these comments will haunt him.

I agree that Doc is overrated.

No question.

Baby was treated pretty decent by Doc I thought .  So I don't think he should been so  public with these feelings .   Won't land him a job anytime soon.

I do agree Doc is average at best with actual basketball coaching skills .  Pretty darn good media and spokesman for his team.  Doc was far better player than coach . Doc was good at appeasing the stars , and that was his biggest gift .....keeping the peace on the team ...JUST Talking was his strength.

From a Basketball only standpoint CBS is the better coach IMO.

His area of excellence is obviously people skills and all that, and what he did here and as coach of he year in Orlando were good and he got results, but - and as a batEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.-nuts celtics fan who was over the top in 08, it is for the way he was able to hold things together over in LA when things around that racist SOB former owner blew up earned him my enduring respect.

Who was that guy at was talking crap about Doc again?  Whatever.

First, saying Doc got lucky is just plain ridiculous.

Second, calling someone the "Bobby Cox of basketball" is high praise. Cox was an absolutely fantastic manager.

I don't think Doc was a bad coach by any means, but I do agree that he was overrated. I think a big reason he was thought of so highly is that he was so personable and charismatic with the media that they loved him, and that was clear from the articles they wrote, which then trickles down to the fans. As I've mentioned before, for as stacked as our roster was, it always amazed me how many five minute stretches we'd go through where we didn't even take one good shot. That's on the coach, especially when you have that much talent.

Another point about Big Baby's statement is that I highly doubt he makes that statement if at least some other legit players didn't agree with him. I'm sure he had this discussion in private with a number of players that played for Doc, and enough of them agreed with him that he went ahead and voiced it publicly.

As much as I didn't fancy Doc, especially for the way he left, this is some really slimy grimmy dirty sh!t coming from this fat pathetic punk.  Just bitter.

Doc did a fantastic job bringing that 2008 team together.  There were actually quite a few people who questioned whether or not that team could gel and all share the ball and fit in their roles as well as they did.  A lot of credit goes to Doc for how he designed that offense to keep everyone engaged and on the same page.

His brilliance with the Celtics didn't end with the '08 title.  The way he handled the '09 to'12 years that followed was masterful as well.  In particular, he was able to deal with a tricky dynamic between Rondo and Pierce and how they would share the main ball handling duties and continue to be effective and complement each other.

He was a great coach for the Celtics.  Glen Davis (who may not have had any career at all without Doc Rivers) sounds like a bitter Big Baby.
