what Doc had in ’08 was special and he was lucky as hell … Lucky as hell. The year before that they was wearing trash bags … But then the next year they win it, now he is one of the best coaches ever? I’m just not feeling that. You know what I mean? You give credit to KG. You give credit to Paul Pierce. You give credit to Ray Allen. Those are the guys who made sure whatever Doc needed to be done, got done.

Currently unemployed NBA player, Glen Davis, later goes on to say that Doc is overrated as a coach. I'm a fan of Doc's as a coach. I'm grateful for what he did for Boston in his years here. But this is pretty good stuff.

ungrateful Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again....I mean sure he had the big 3, isn't that most coaches who wins nowadays, who needed a star or two

I mean give Doc credit, he is a great people's coach. Sure he's flawed but he's a good coach. This is also the same guy who got coach of the year with TMac in Orlando and a bunch of scrubs.

Wow. I wonder if he would have said this before Doc gave him a job in L.A. for one more year.

I agree that Doc is overrated.

He is saying exactly that Doc is not a great people's coach.

I don't disagree with him, but BBD is the last guy who should be disparaging others.

The difference between Doc and the other guys you hinted at is that nobody actually thinks Ty Lue or Eric Spoelstra are good coaches. We all know those guys won because of the players...People seem to think that Doc was instrumental in the success of Boston's Big 3 v2.0, but I tend to agree with Big Baby here.

Big Baby nailed it. Eff Doc Rivers. He's known for building emotions or the social aspect of team basketball, that's about it. Also, where's the credit to Tom Thibs? His defensive guru mindset AIDED the Celtics in 2008, and especially 2010.

It was because of injuries is what derailed the Celtics' run in the previous era.

Doc's record of success as a coach spans a lot more years and teams than just the '08 Celtics.

He arguably deserves the 'great coach' honorific more for what he did with those scrub Magic teams.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I think Doc is rated about correctly. One of the better coaches in the league. Sometimes knowing when to let your staff (See Thibs) handle aspects of the job is what makes you good.

Who's to say what the big 3 era looks like without Rivers, or if it even comes to fruition?

Doc Rivers is the Don Zimmer of basketball.

He's Ed McMahon riding the gravy train.

He ran the Big Three into the ground and truly tanked us with small ball.

He isn't an awful coach. He is as average as possible and lucked out. He is a one-hit wonder. Thibs with KG as player-coach if that were allowed would have won the title.

In hindsight, the 2007-08 Celtics were historically stacked. If KG doesn't go down, that was a three-peat.

Doc is Phil Jackson. He wants everything gift-wrapped and certain. He is Kevin Durant signing with Golden State. There's nothing really special about him from my eye test.

The vast majority of informed NBA fans perceive Erik Spoelstra as being a very good coach, and he certainly is.   Spoelstra has been a coach in the NBA for 20 years, and in 8 seasons as a head coach he has a .608 win percentage.  He didnt have Lebron or Bosh for 8 years.

Doc is also a great coach.  Do you not realize how good of a job he did in 2006-2007 season?  He got the most out of a bunch of scrubs and turned them into KG.

Doc then went on to win the championship in year 1 when every single media / expert source said no way the Celtics win their first year (because historically teams have to climb to the top over a few seasons).

Even Lebron/Wade/Bosh didnt win until their 2nd year.

KD is at the top of his profession, thats why he was able to pick and choose where he goes.  Same with Doc, at the top of his profession and was able to pick and choose where he wanted to go.

The disrespect for Doc's coaching abilities on this blog never cease to amaze me. He is one of the best coaches in the league. He is one of the very best managers of people and motivators of players you will find. He has developed tons of excellent players. He was playing smallball, spreading the floor and having great success with it before it became the new normal NBA. I will never get the disdain for Doc that many here have.

I probably like Doc more than you, but I agree 100% about the big baby part.  Why is he even doing this?

I would think he would be at least a bit grateful to Doc for signing him to the Clips .  I guess he didn't get the pt he thought he deserved...BBD has always been a head case.
