If all this talk is true that DA won't make any trades to jeopardize max cap space this summer, it leads me to believe that Ainge really thinks we will get Gordon Hayward as a FA. Maybe Ainge/Stevens know something we don't (a wink wink nod nod type thing?)

If we were to get Hayward as a FA then I think we may as well trade Crowder because Jae is not the type of player that would play well off the bench (and I doubt Crowder or Hayward can effectively play extended minutes at the 4). At that point maybe trade him instead of (or in addition to) Bradley to get another piece to the puzzle?

I agree with this premise. I guess one indication would be if Crowder is moved at the trade deadline to land a big man, clearing space for Haywood this summer.

I still say do a small minor deal...Bogut or Cauley-Stein and then keep the pick, sign a FA. If the pick isn't the 1st pick you can always dangle it for a 2nd tier player.

WCS is exactly the person I was thinking about also.

Like maybe WCS and Casspi(expiring too) for Crowder.

I think Sac does it as they need a SF if they are truly wanting to make a playoff run and re-sign Boogie.

I am worried how trading Crowder mid season would affect the team chemistry...especially if it was to get Hayward in the long term. Would that send a bad message to players???

This year roster:
PG: IT4/Smart/Rozier
SG: Bradley/Smart
SF: Casspi(when healthy), Brown, Green
PF: Horford/KO/JJ
C: WCS/AJ

Next year go after Hayward:
IT4/Bradley/Hayward/Hordford/WCS

I don't think we, or any team, will be signing any max level free agents from any team.  Too much incentive for guys to stay and I'm fine with that.  If da doesn't make any trades, it's because he doesn't see a good trade.  That's all.

This trade would hurt midseason team chemistry a lot and would make us weaker, in my opinion. Besides, if we get a max FA and extend our guys in 2018, Crowder's is our most valuable contract for years to come.

Am I the only one who prefers Crowder to Hayward as our starting forward? More efficient scorer and better defender. And contract is so sweet. Hayward minus Crowder moves needle in wrong direction.

I think this is not completely the case.  Right now we're a little bit short ($1-2 million) of max salary cap space (depends if we pick #1 or lower).  Rozier was rumored to have been the sticking point in an Ibaka deal.  Rozier also makes $1.99 million next year.  If Ainge was really confident Hayward (or Griffin) were coming next season, he should have had no problem trading Rozier for Ibaka, since a) he wouldn't care if Ibaka walked, and b) he'd probably need to move Rozier in July anyway.  Accordingly, I believe Ainge feels he has a good enough chance that it's worth not making any moves that create less cap space next year, but is not so confident that he makes moves assuming it to be the case that he's getting Hayward.

I think that's only true of guys eligible for Designated Player extensions. For other max guys, the money over the first four years is still relatively close.

I am in the middle but lean Hayward.

Their stats are pretty much identical with Crowder shooting the 3 ball 2.5% better BUT Hayward is averaging 8 more points in the same amount of mins.
As for defense I don't think Hayward is terrible and Jae has taken a step back defensively in my mind. Thus I lean towards Hayward.

Now I know some will say Hayward is in a better position to score than Jae but I'd argue that Hayward is just a much better scorer and would help IT4 immensely not to mention Bradley scoring

Gordon Hayward is 10th in the NBA in defensive win shares, and opponents shoot 2.9% worse against him than their norm, only 41.5% overall.  The 41.5% shooting allowed is 7th among starting forwards.

He's not a bad defender. In fact, statistically he's better than Jae, and ranks among the top tier. His offense is stellar as well.

Many of you consider Hayward a poor defender, which he isn't at all.

What if the team was thinking of moving AB and playing Hayward at SG?

I think that would work. Or they could move AB, play Smart at SG, Hayward at SF and Crowder at PF
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

We don't need Hayward. Overrated and overpaid.
We need a big who can defend and rebound.
