kudos to james young he was moving his feet and being aggressive on defense -it looks like he cares-

Kelly does this every year. He shows flashes of being a really good player.

Problem is, that he also suffers a nagging injury and loses confidence and sucks for a while every year as well.

Now its possible that his inconsistency was just the growing pains of a young big, but I think its more likely that we just happen to be on one of the upswings.

so what type of contract would he command this offseason? would £8m do it?

Zeller gets paid $8 million to sit on the bench. Kelly will get much closer to $15 million

Two words at that inflated price tag:

Not. Interested.
Mozgov got $16 mil a year for 4 years from the Lakers last summer. Biyombo got $17 per year from the Magic. I don't see any reason Kelly wouldn't be in the same range ($14-18), unless he just loves playing for Brad a heck of a lot and doesn't care about money.

Those were the two worst deals of the offseason and the GM's responsible for each are both in the hot seat.

I think Kelly gets something like $50M over four years to stay in green.

Again, not interested in him at that price.

Trade him, or let him walk.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

He really seems to struggle building off his good performances since you know after every good game he's going cold the next.

It's like he needs to take more pride in his game or something. He needs to start acting like a big time player and maybe he will maintain that production. I would have no problem with Ainge giving him that 12 mil a year somebody mentioned earlier, if he keeps playing his usual smart way but with that aggressiveness we've been seeing recently.

That'd be good for the C's.

Don't forget, there are lots of bad GM's in the NBA.

I don't have concerns about his recent performance being a flash in the pan.  He's talented and is really starting to get it.  I think he can be even better over time.

The real concern I have is with KO's injury history and the time it takes him to recover back to normal.  Like Avery, we've seen it enough to call him injury prone.  Nagging injuries but injuries nonetheless.

In terms of worth, we'll be very lucky to get him at 50 mill over four years.  Those bad GM's are the very same ones that will drive up his price.  It's a tough thing though because I get that we want to preserve cap space.  I guess it comes down to how replaceable KO would be, whether he is a piece for the future (when we're title contenders), and whether we have a committed FA that is better to use the money on now.  I have no idea about the last part, but based on the firs two parts I try really hard to keep him.  I'd so 4 years for 60 mil easy.  A little more if needed.

ok, but Zelly's contract is only guaranteed for one year, Kelly is likely to ask for at least a 4 years contract.

Has many team showed interest in Kelly in the past? $15m seems a bit too much for a 10p, 5r guy with average defence. Sully had slightly better numbers last year and only got a one year $6m deal with Raptors.

Is there any way we can struct a deal for Kelly that consists of average salary but a massive bonus? Like if he get guaranteed $10m/y, and another $5m if he can average 15/7?

I remember NBA rules are if your bonus criteria is very unlike to achieve then it's not counted into the cap space.

Well yes to my knowledge we can offer something that... Or Kelly could just take the guaranteed $14+ he's bound to receive from another team this summer. Teams will pay through the nose for a 7 footer with 3 point range.

Incentive-laden deals usually only happen if there isn't much of a market for the player outside of resigning with their own team and the team is only bargaining against itself.

When Kelly is healthy for a while he gains confidence and he seems to play better.    Go figure.

Sully was also fat as a house and hurting his foot as a result. There is no such risk with Kelly.
