As we all know Coach Brad is coaching the ASG - I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any other FAs this summer playing in the ASG than Hayward? Will Brad interact with players at other events like the rising stars game somehow?

Also, will Brad even get a chance to interact with Hayward as he is on the West team??

P.S. obviously Isaiah can also recruit just as he did last year trying (and succeeding in helping) to get Horford :)

Millsap will be. And, apart from Hayward, he may be the nº1 target this summer for many teams, because he's one of the best FAs with a good probability of changing uniforms.

Also, Durant has a player option of terminating his contract and...well, you know what he did last summer. Lowry will surely opt out to earn a lot more than 12 million, but he doesn't fit here with IT and probably a G picked in the draft. Curry is a FA too, but it would be a HUGE surprise seeing him anywhere else.

No Hayward, please.
Draft Fultz or Jackson and sign Noel.

There's no one really to sign via FA other than Hayward, I think. Getting Millsap essentially makes us the Hawks from 2 years ago. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but he's terrific in the same way that Horford is terrific.

DA needs to make a splash via trade.

Those Hawks had Teague, Bazemore, Korver and no bench outside (a rookie, erratic Schroeder). You can't compare them to IT, Bradley, Crowder, Smart and Jaylen Brown.

Please, stop that motto of the new Hawks. We would be a loooot better.

That said, I'm not sure of giving Millsap a max deal. But it's a different discussion.

Millsap for sure. Horford and Millsap obviously work really well together as seen by the Hawks, and it gives us the legit starting PF we need to keep Horford at the Center position.

As someone who is long tired of a Celtics + Milsap marriage being called "the Hawks all over again", I have a couple questions for people who do repeatedly make this point.

1) Do you remember that those Hawks went to the conference finals?
2) Do you think that the Hawks, without Milsap, would have had a top 5 record in the NBA and top 2 record in the conference?  Because if getting Milsap makes us the Hawks, then right now we're the Hawks without Milsap.  I don't think a Milsap-less Hawks team is as successful as we've been to date, and accordingly getting Milsap would make us better than that (very good) Hawks team.

The things that scares me about Millsap is his age and the contract he would want.

I have nothing against the player. He's a really good player.

I like Hayward but I think it very likely he stays in Utah

KD = pipedream. Just not gonna happen.

Well, retaining Durant may not be straightforward for GS, so who knows?

This is why maintaining our max FA cap space for this summer is a priority, the cap is projected to go down, not as many teams will have the flexibility to go for max free agents.

This is why maintaining our max FA cap space for this summer is a priority, the cap is projected to go down, not as many teams will have the flexibility to go for max free agents.

1) The cap isn't going down.  It is scheduled to rise from $94 million to $102 million.  The NBA revised the projection down from $103 million to $102 million this week, but it was also projected to be at $102 million last July when Durant signed, so Golden State's plans have not changed.

2) These plans for Golden State have a few options.  Durant can pick up his player option of $27.7 million and sign a big deal the following year.  He can sign another 1+1 deal starting at $31.8 million using his non-Bird free agency rights.  Next year he could opt out again and sign a deal at the max and earn larger raises than he could with a max deal this summer (8% vs. 5%), making up some of what he'd give up this summer.  This would let Golden State keep Bird rights for everyone they want.  Or they can renounce the rapidly declining Iggy (as well as most of their scrub free agents), sign Durant and Steph to max deals, use their remaining cap space to give Zaza a raise, use their room exception on Livingston, Iggy, or a free agent taking a discount.  And fill up the roster with ring-chasing vets who you're looking to get a few minutes from, while hoping that guys Patrick McCaw, Kevin Looney, and Damien Jones are able to give a few more minutes as well.  In other words, bring back a team that looks pretty similar to this one.

3)  If KD left Golden State over money (a really bad PR move) or lack of fit resulting in less than a championship (also a bad PR move) to fit KD in would require letting Olynyk walk (along with every other free agent), as well as shipping out one of Crowder or Bradley for no salary in return.  This would be a lesser team than he turned down signing with last summer.  In other words, KD is not coming to Boston.  We tried our best, missed, and now we move on from KD.  That ship has sailed.

The CBA makes it more likely that players stay, I think.

That Hawks team had the best record in the east but they weren't legit contenders. They would've been eliminated in the semis too if John Wall didn't break his hand. I'm not convinced landing Millsap gets us that much closer to Cleveland.

I don't think anyone is insinuating he's trash. Like, if we didn't have Horford, I'd absolutely love Millsap on this team.

Millsap apparently said lately he preferred to re-sign in Atlanta. The Hawks also said they would not trade him. So I don't know if he's on the market. He's a good fit, in my view, but if they re-sign him, they'll be paying him a lot for past performance. He has maybe 2-3 good years left in him. Maybe like Horford. He would certainly put them in the thick of contention this year and next. To win now, if that's possible.

Free agency will be tough. Hard to see the major ones leaving their teams. But you never know.

I think whatever Danny does outside of getting a cheap rebounder, they'll be a risk attached to it.

Chris22, I have to say...you're consistent.

I would be happy with this result.
