I think James took offense to the he doesn't want to compete line.  That was a personal attack on James' character by Barkley (at least it is easy to see how James would take it that way, though it is unclear if Barkley really meant it that way), which is why James struck back on Barkley's character.  To Barkley's credit he just brushed off James' comments.

This is spot on. TP.

Barkley is a hater, it's as plain as day. He just won't give Lebron credit and is always finding the negative side of the coin with Lebron.

That's what a hater does, they get jealous, and they focus on negative things about someone.

I'm impressed by Lebron. He is the King of the NBA. He can say his team needs more help in the media if he wants. He's earned that honor for single handedly bringing a championship to Cleveland after that GSW finals series last year.

Charles needs to bow down and stop bullsh!tting on Lebron at every chance he gets.

Good for Lebron for sticking up for himself.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Problem is, everything Barkley said about LeBron is dead on correct.

I have full respect for LeBrons talent level - he's a great player.   But as a person he is an arrogant, egotistical, attention seeking child.  For once in his entitled life he should shut his mouth and just let his game do the talking.

Je just keeps digging himself in deeper with arrogant comment after arrogant comment.

I love how LeBron has enough "drama" that our mods decided it was pertinent to merge them into one thread.

His talent is through the roof, but man if he isn't the biggest diva in sports I don't know who is.

Let your talent talk for you man.

Bill Russell was a player/coach. Lebron is a player/coach/GM. When you are the best at what you do your input because more valuable. Lebron felt the need to nudge his owner to make the moves he felt the team needed and I don't see the problem with it seeing he is part GM to this team. He is not simply just a player on the team. He has other roles.

James was clearly whining, but I absolutely disagree with Barkley that James doesn't want to compete.  I think it was that line that set James off, and I think Barkley crossed the line with that particular statement.  The rest of Barkley's criticism was fine.

Don't like your lineup; look in the mirror, Bron.    He put together the roster.   And, its the highest paid in the league.   What more could the king want??

I think James took offense to the he doesn't want to compete line.

Except Barkley is right.  LeBron wants to play and he wants to win and he wants to be a champion, but he doesn't want to compete.  If the Cavs go to the Finals and lose to the Warriors and Cleveland doesn't do anything to respond, THAT is something about which LeBron would have every right to complain.

This is about LeBron pre-emptively complaining that he doesn't have enough help, when he has the roster HE picked and the Cavs spent more money than anyone else in the league to give LeBron what HE wanted.

I mean, you'd think LeBron would relish the position of being the underdog to Golden State.  You'd think it would give him all the motivation he could possibly need.  If he can somehow beat THIS Warriors team in the Finals, equaling or surpassing Jordan would become a very real possibility.  But LeBron doesn't want to be the underdog.  He wants to be the favorite.  He wants the odds in his favor and he's whining because they're not.

disagree entirely.  The Cavs barely beat the Warriors who then went out and added an MVP in his prime in Kevin Durant, while keeping their 3 or 4 best players and adding some quality veterans on the bench.  It is pretty apparent to pretty much everyone that if healthy the Warriors will win the title.  I think ESPN gave the Warriors a 75% chance to win the title earlier this week (and that obviously accounts for the injury possibility).  At the mid point of the season, the largest sports entertainment company in the U.S. says the NBA champion is basically a foregone conclusion.  Lebron knows this and wants the Cavs to have as good a chance as possible to compete with the juggernaut that is the Warriors, which means Lebron, Kyrie, and Kevin all need to be 100% healthy and rested for the playoffs.  That can't happen as the Cavs are currently constructed.  So James talking to the media about some roster issues, isn't because he doesn't want to compete, it is absolutely because he does want to compete.

LeBron seems to coast a lot during the regular season .  Doing just enough effort to win enough games to finish first in East.

He usually has a larger gap between his team and the next four or five teams .  He likes to let the rest of the team do the work , then jump in the last two quarters and make the difference.

I believe he is frustrated he has to Play more to keep the East coast lead ,  he just kinda goofs off to me unless it's the Warriors or Spurs .....he seems to use them as gauge of how much effort he is going to need to bring.  See how hard he ll have to play to compete and win.

Where in guys like Smart , Kobe ,and KG only have one speed wide open the whole game , every game.

I think he just doesn't want to have to play a full power until the playoffs .  When he seems to bring i110 percent every game.

He wants to compete .....but under his own terms .....which makes guys like Charles squirm

See I think this can happen as constructed.  They're just going about it the wrong way.

While I think a healthy/rested Cavs can compete with the Warriors, there's really no scenario where the Cavs would have home court advantage against them in the Finals.  And does Cleveland really need home court against anybody in the East?  So why are they killing themselves now worrying about the regular season?

Keep their Big 3's minutes down, let them take some games off, coast through the regular season, etc.   Their top 6 guys have played 3 seasons together now, I think they can hit cruise control for a little bit.

LeBron leads the league in minutes and has played 40+ mins 11 times. Now I don't know if the final score tells the story, but he played 42 in a 11 point win over Charlotte, he played 42 in 12 point win against the Kings.  If you want to go all out and flex against the Spurs/Warriors/Raptors/C's I get it. But 47 minutes against the Bucks? 45 against the Kings? 41 against the Sixers? 44 against NO?  That's just ridiculous.  Now a lot of those games were losses or close, so I know that's why LeBron is upset that he doesn't have enough help, but why should the Cavs even worry about them in the first place?

Kawhi on the flip side has played over 40 only once (against the Warriors), Isaiah Thomas has played 40 twice.  Even the one man show Westbrook has only played 40+ four times.  LeBron leading the league in minutes is just ridiculous, and I think is more of a testament to bad coaching than management filling out the roster.

Agree with this post entirely.  The Cavs have the second best roster in the league but that's not good enough for Lebron.  He's acting like a spoiled baby.  And everything he said about Barkley's past is irrelevant to the issue at hand.

the only way to scale back James' minutes is for him to not dress.  He isn't going to just play 30 mpg unless the Cavs are blowing people out.  If he doesn't dress right now, the Cavs are short handed, and that is the problem.

I don't think it is fair for LeBron or Barkley. LeBron knows he needs more to beat Warriors. Every one knows that fact. Yet Barkley is making more a personal knock at LeBron. Is knowing you can't win make a guy a bad person? No way. And despite that Barkley didn't need the roast either as it is Barkley's job to offer over the top comments on that show. I guess as many said James has reached a point of no more "Mr. Nice Guy" with the media. I get that from LeBron but just remember the media loves to build guys up and tearing them down. If James can't brush off Barkley wait till he starts his physical decline and everyone starts calling him over the hill.
