Lebron knows this and wants the Cavs to have as good a chance as possible to compete with the juggernaut that is the Warriors, which means Lebron, Kyrie, and Kevin all need to be 100% healthy and rested for the playoffs. That can't happen as the Cavs are currently constructed.
See I think this can happen as constructed. They're just going about it the wrong way.
While I think a healthy/rested Cavs can compete with the Warriors, there's really no scenario where the Cavs would have home court advantage against them in the Finals. And does Cleveland really need home court against anybody in the East? So why are they killing themselves now worrying about the regular season?
Keep their Big 3's minutes down, let them take some games off, coast through the regular season, etc. Their top 6 guys have played 3 seasons together now, I think they can hit cruise control for a little bit.
LeBron leads the league in minutes and has played 40+ mins 11 times. Now I don't know if the final score tells the story, but he played 42 in a 11 point win over Charlotte, he played 42 in 12 point win against the Kings. If you want to go all out and flex against the Spurs/Warriors/Raptors/C's I get it. But 47 minutes against the Bucks? 45 against the Kings? 41 against the Sixers? 44 against NO? That's just ridiculous. Now a lot of those games were losses or close, so I know that's why LeBron is upset that he doesn't have enough help, but why should the Cavs even worry about them in the first place?
Kawhi on the flip side has played over 40 only once (against the Warriors), Isaiah Thomas has played 40 twice. Even the one man show Westbrook has only played 40+ four times. LeBron leading the league in minutes is just ridiculous, and I think is more of a testament to bad coaching than management filling out the roster.
