A report out of Boston, in contradiction to an ESPN story from Friday, stated the Celtics still have some interest, but as previously reported by The Post, Boston has no intention of giving up any of the first-round picks it controls from the Nets. They have their own picks that could work in a deal along with expiring contracts of Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko. Jackson is known to like defensive forward Jae Crowder. The Boston report stated the Knicks had a pro scout at the Celtics game in Milwaukee Saturday.
I think between the two separate reports linking Melo and the C's today that this legitimately could go down, as long as the price is right.
Danny has to be realizing that our other preferred trade targets, i.e. Boogie, Butler, and George, just aren't going to be available before the deadline, and the only other significant upgrade would be Noel, who I'm not sure Danny is high on. Other players like Vucevic and Bogut, who I doubt is bought out or traded at this point, are also lesser options to Melo.
And with regard to free agency, I just don't see us making any significant splash, and if we did it would most likely be Ibaka or Milsap, who I just don't see as better fits than Melo, especially offensively.
An offense of IT, Bradley, Crowder, Melo, and Al is about as dynamic as you can get, and I honestly think our defense would improve a bit over the disaster that was the Al/Amir pairing with Al actually getting back to his natural center position.
