Not a nice thing to do.

I just discussed this with some friends who support the Bulls and they were half annoyed half sarcastic (Rondo doing his stuff again).

My feeling is that Rondo wants to fight for a ring. He doesn't have much time left in the NBA, he has declined, and he always had a super-competitive character even by NBA standards.

He would be a nice addition to the bench of the Cavs.

Bulls fans on the RealGM forums seem to be supporting Rondo's actions. It's easy to dismiss it as a negative but when looking closer at the situation, someone needed to respond to the comments from Wade and Butler. He's the other 'veteran' guy in the locker room, he knows what a winning team looks like and he is reportedly close to the young players.

I think Rondo got dealt a bad hand here. He came to the Bulls with the idea that he would be in the backcourt with Butler, then they go and sign Wade and it puts loads of question marks around the team.

All this talk of Rondo being on his way out, I don't agree. To me it sounds a lot like Wade wants out and he's stirring up trouble to get it. I also don't see Rondo going to the Cavs and playing with LeBron. If he'd known Wade was coming to Chicago I doubt he would have gone there, I think it even more unlikely that he plays with LeBron

Agree with you here. Before Rondo even responded I HATED what Butler and Wade did. I was like "Are you guys freaking serious?!"

@Androslav

Ouch.

Drug, are you saying he is retiring?

Filos, that would be a bit harsh to say.
The facts are:
-In his last 4 stops, his contract outlasted his welcome with the team.
-He can't space the floor, defend and his best skill is a surplus on a good team.
-He is smart, but can't show it on the floor and coaches don't like when someone is as smart as them or trying to show it in front of the rest of the team.
-In last few weeks, since his last fallout occurred, he is using every media window to say how experienced and smart he is while acknowledging his good connection with young players.

I would say that he is throwing hooks all over the place and if someone bites - then they bite!
I'd say his simplified pitch is;
If u need a backup PG - "I'm here!"
If you are thinking about a cheap solution for the tanking head coach job - "I'm here!"
If u need an ass. coach - "It will do!"

He is taking as many bites to the apple as there is possible and that is a smart business man.

Rondo's best playing days are clearly behind him and his skill set is headed towards the David Lee route. That said, I think he's in the right in this issue. What Wade and Butler did were pretty cowardly. You win as a team, you lose as a team. They threw their teammates under the bus. There's a huge difference between "we need to take losses more seriously" and "they need to take losses more seriously".

Yup. I fail to see how people can ignore this difference. This isnt really about Rondo. Whether Rondo or the young guys reacted or not, Wade and Butler is wrong with what they did.

I waited awhile before responding to many of the posts here.
But as a long time player and coach, I was actually proud of Rondo.
This will probably cost him millions of dollars. He may not be able to be traded.
There may not be another GM willing to take a risk on Rondo. It has happened before to skilled players, who seem to have controversy follow them. This may land Rondo out of the NBA faster than you can say "Allen Iverson".  He may be in China in the next weeks, picking Stephan Marbury's pocket, or playing in the outdoor league in New Zealand.

But anyone who has ever been involved on playing for a real team or successful organization knows that you don't put down your teammates, you lift them up.

Criticize Rondo for using social media to send the message. But realize that evaluating his motives are essential to understanding this situation.

Teamwork is a fundamental value in sports-at all levels. And what Butler and Wade would have gotten them benched on any good team with a real coach.

You can criticize Rondo's play, his emotional struggles with coaches, his statistical decline.
But don't criticize his guts or his integrity.

How many of you would be willing to stand up for some of the people you work with, the kids you go to school with, or your teammates-knowing that it might cost you your job?

When I saw what Rondo posted, I thought-"that's a Celtic". Thats the message of Red Auerbach: from Cousy to Russell, from Hondo and Cowens to Bird and McHale to Pierce and KG.
Lead by example. Lead by taking responsibility.

Rondo's post, I believe was contrived. I think there is a lot more going on behind the scene.
Re-read the comment.  " My vets didn’t pick and choose when they wanted to bring it."
They brought it every time they stepped in the gym whether it was practice or a game. They didn’t take days off."

Hmm-wonder whats really going on behind the scenes. Who is taking days off?

More from Rondo-
"My vets didn’t care about their numbers. My vets played for the team. When we lost, they wouldn’t blame us. They took responsibility and got in the gym.”

Go back and look at the Bulls last year. Which player was accused of being in it for his numbers.

Many of you probably don't remember, when the Celtics got swept by the Milwaukee Bucks-1983
Bird didn't blame his teammates. He said he was going to punish himself that summer and then went and worked out everyday outside on his court in French Lick, Indiana.

I have a feeling that Rondo has tried talking to Jimmy Butler and DWade about some of these issues. I don't think Rondo has trouble challenging others.

It seems like Rondo believes that Butler and Wade are suffering "from the disease of me". He notes,
"My vets didn't have an influence on the coaching staff. They couldn't change the plan because it didn't work for them."

One of the problems of playing for a franchise like the Celtics, is what life is like when you have to play basketball for franchises that are not the Celtics.

All that talk about leadership, uplifting players, leading by example....and you leave out Ray Allen who practically made Rondo look good.

You just did exactly what Rondo has done for years. Play the way he wants to play, call the plays like he wants to call them and not care about what anybody else thinks or says.

Hes always been an egotistical brat and ego maniac.

No other type of person would clash with coache's like if he wasn't a selfish me first player. Even his assists got on peoples nerves because they started to see he was all about records and getting as many assists as he could.

I loved Rondo for years....and he played with heart, but he was young and the Vets here were not going to let him sabotage the one chance they had for a ring.

Rondo isnt exactly wrong in this situation but he allowed himself to do what he always does and thats get involved in some sort of dumb situation.

I still laugh that you purposely left out Ray Allen, like every other bitter Celtic fan does in here.

The ridiculousness and agenda is the amount of flip flopping fans do.

Everyone wanted to blame Ray Allen , the bad teammate, the spoiled diva, the guy who wasnt friends with players

meanwhile, he was a pro, did his job, never missed a practice, was always at game times 5 hours shooting before anybody.....unselfish, gave up a lot of his game more than anybody on the team and never destroyed chemistry. Garnett and Pierce never hated Ray on the court at all , he never did anything that caused arguments, trade rumours..you see that in the NBA everywhere. Not Ray though. IN fact the trades were all for him.

Now flashback everyone loved Rondo, great teammate, pro, friend blah blah

and now we see him 3 teams later and he has been all but a headache to coaches players and fan bases.

Skips out on games to go to his birthday party, argues with every coach , that includes Doc Rivers

http://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2015/2/26/8114369/complete-history-rajon-rondo-p---ing-off-coaches-benched

Doc Rivers's "intense dislike" for Rajon Rondo is the primary reason the coach wants to leave the Boston Celtics, according to Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops.com.

The feud between Rivers and his point guard led to an incident during a team meeting in the locker room in which Rondo cursed at Rivers, who responded by trying to fight Rondo before the "fracas" was broken up, a source close to the team told Sheridan.

The guy has an ego, the problem is he can't control it.
