Weird that Simmons from the Spurs is playing, the guy is 27 years old and is who he is at this point; not much of a "Rising Star". Anyways, I wonder if Jaylen got invited and declined this as well.

US Team

-Booker
-Brogdon
-Chriss
-Ingram
-Kaminsky
-Okafor
-Russell
-Jonathon Simmons
-KAT
-Myles Turner

From that list, I could only say that I would 100% rather have KAT, Devin Booker, and Myles Turner than Jaylen Brown. I still think Ingram is more Tayshaun than KD, and Russell is a knucklehead. While Brown hasn't shown much in green, I still think his potential is higher than many on this list.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Okafor and Kaminsky are surprising. Ingram hasn't been better than Brown but probably better fits the "rising star" description.

Two of these decisions are fairly bizarre

As another poster mentioned if you are 27 you should not be playing in the game like simmons. That is ridiculous.

Also how in the world is Exum playing in this being his 3rd season (I realized he missed a season with injury, but still) and averaging 5 points and struggling to stay in the Jazz rotation in the game?

As another poster mentioned it is also very possible Brown declined an invitation. That may have been why there was a scramble to get a last minute replacement like Simmons or Exum that doesn't really fit the game.

The only rules are 2 years or less of playing experience, which is why Embiid in year three can play in the game as well.

I doubt it.  Brown just doesn't have the minutes or stats to justify a selection.  For 1st and 2nd year guys, he's 56th in minutes at 13.5.  Everyone else selected plays at least 18mpg.  The group avg and the median are both 25mpg.

He's 49th in ppg with 5.  The group avg is 11.9, the median is 9.9, the lowest guy selected is 5.9 (Exum).

Now if you want to argue Rozier should have been selected over Exum, I'm with you.  But Brown, the only thing he has on his resume right now is drafted #3 (and #1, #4, and #5 aren't going either).  Just doesn't have the minutes or stats to warrant a selection.

We all know this is nothing more than a dog and pony show anyway.  It's no indication of whose star is set to rise the most.  Hopefully he uses this "slight" as a chip on his shoulder though.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

US Roster:
Devon Booker
Malcom Brogdon
Marquess Chriss
Brandom Ingram
Frank Kaminsky
Jahlil Okafor
D' Angelo Russell
Jonathon Simmons
Karl Anthony Towns
Myles Turner

Team World:
Joel Embiid
Dante Exum
Buddy Hield
Nikola Jokic
Trey Lyles
Emmanuel Mudiay
Jamal Murray
Kristaps Porzingis
Domantas Sabonis
Dario Saric

I don't mind Brown not coming into the game since he'll be focused on improving his game during the all-star break. But how the hell did Chriss and Exum got ahead of him? I hope this puts more fire under the kid's belly. He have the right mindset.

Hopefully next year, he'll get the recognition he deserves.

I think Brown would go on the US Roster.

He has averaged 13.5 minutes and 5 points a game.

That just wont get you on the team.

I'm really happy that Jonathon Simmons is making a nice career for himself, but I'm not sure I agree with calling a 27 year-old who bounced around the D-league for years a "rising star."  Was Whiteside one last year?
