"to focus all my energy on being ready to help my team."
love the kid, you'd be surprise how much 1 week of practice can do for anyone
but you miss out on a lot of potential learning opportunities when you aren't around guys at the all star game. Imagine what you could overhear in that setting. Imagine being able to pull a veteran aside from another team and ask some questions. Maybe just participating brings a whole new attitude and confidence to his game. I can't believe he turned it down. Seems like the wrong move to me (unless he is injured or has a personal conflict).
There was an article a few days ago that made it seem like Gerald Green was advising him against it. At least if you read between the lines, but then again it might just be the author's interpretation.
Basically Green spent a couple of weeks practicing dunks instead of focusing on other parts of his game. Then he wins and is labeled as just a dunker, then he's out of the league. But it's something he always dreamed about as a kid so that's why he did it. If this wasn't something Brown always wanted to do, he shouldn't do it. Then Brown says all those dunks take a toll on your body.
I'm just glad he's not in it, because I don't like some of the gimmicky tribute dunks.
Josh Smith wore a Dominique Wilkins jersey and did a Dominique dunk.
Nate Robinson brought out Spud Webb and dunked over him.
Gerald Green wore a Dee Brown jersey, pumped up his shoes and did the Dee Brown dunk.
Dwight Howard wore a superman cape.
Nate Robinson dressed in green to be Krypto-Nate.
I can only cringe thinking about the Jaylen Brown/Dee Brown/Gerlad Green tribute dunk. Where Jaylen pumps up his shoes, and then does the Dee Brown dunk over both Dee Brown and Gerald Green. Actually kind of cool now that I think about it, but overall just not a fan of the "tribute" dunks which I'm sure he would have done.
