Wouldn't a better translation be "I would rather stay home and practice so I can earn more rotation minutes instead of getting wined and dined in a glorified PR exercise in New Orleans?"

dunk contest is kind of meaningless except for the fact that it brings the contestants national tv exposure.  if brown doesn't care about the hoopla, the hype, fame, etc. then it's not like working on trick dunks for a week is going to make his game better... is it?

this is awfully cynical. Confidence doesnt seem to be an issue for Brown.

love the kid, you'd be surprise how much 1 week of practice can do for anyone
but you miss out on a lot of potential learning opportunities when you aren't around guys at the all star game.  Imagine what you could overhear in that setting.  Imagine being able to pull a veteran aside from another team and ask some questions.  Maybe just participating brings a whole new attitude and confidence to his game.  I can't believe he turned it down.  Seems like the wrong move to me (unless he is injured or has a personal conflict).

There was an article a few days ago that made it seem like Gerald Green was advising him against it.  At least if you read between the lines, but then again it might just be the author's interpretation.

Basically Green spent a couple of weeks practicing dunks instead of focusing on other parts of his game.  Then he wins and is labeled as just a dunker, then he's out of the league.  But it's something he always dreamed about as a kid so that's why he did it.  If this wasn't something Brown always wanted to do, he shouldn't do it.  Then Brown says all those dunks take a toll on your body.

I'm just glad he's not in it, because I don't like some of the gimmicky tribute dunks.

Josh Smith wore a Dominique Wilkins jersey and did a Dominique dunk.

Nate Robinson brought out Spud Webb and dunked over him.

Gerald Green wore a Dee Brown jersey, pumped up his shoes and did the Dee Brown dunk.

Dwight Howard wore a superman cape.

Nate Robinson dressed in green to be Krypto-Nate.

I can only cringe thinking about the Jaylen Brown/Dee Brown/Gerlad Green tribute dunk.  Where Jaylen pumps up his shoes, and then does the Dee Brown dunk over both Dee Brown and Gerald Green.  Actually kind of cool now that I think about it, but overall just not a fan of the "tribute" dunks which I'm sure he would have done.

I wanted to see Jaylen honor both Dee brown and Gerald Green by pumping up his shoes and then doing a blindfolded dunk while blowing out a candle  ;)

Winning a contest is publicity in itself and an agent can make hay with that providing you can play.

There are plenty of guys who played years after winning the contest, the key is can you play.   Guys who can only dunk are gone.   Who has to practice dunks?   You can either do it or you can't can you dunk?   I could 360 in my 20's.   I never needed to practice that much, because I could jump.   You might need to get timing down but that is it folks.   I would almost bet Ainge and Coach BS would like to see Brown attack the rim more not less because he is one of the few guys who can.

Funny, I doubt it.   Most guys do not improve drastically over all star weekend.   It takes weeks to build muscle memory and more repetitions than one can do in a week.   Experts have established that it takes from 40,000 to 50,000 repetitions of a certain motor task to achieve the complete stabilization and automation of one's technique.    I have to wonder what level of basketball you played to say this statement.   Here is more information and this is most known study on muscle memory:

The Role of Deliberate Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance

Someone tweeted the rookie/sophomore game roster and Brown didn't make it. I'm looking for the tweet now.

EDIT: Forsberg tweeted it. I can't link to it right now because I'm at work, but if you're of a mind to, you can find it there.

I know it was garbage time and whatnot but did ya'll see Jaylen and Rozier finally connect on a Alley oop against Washington? It was a home run type of play and they seemed to have a little laugh about it like "dude why are we going so hard when the game's not even close!"

I think all of us here know this kid can dunk, only a guy with that explosion and agility can pull something like that off. I wonder where he would be with his game with some decent PT.

Let's not forget this guy is trying to see the court and gain Stevens trust. If Jaylen is a true Celtic he know's this ain't going to be no "break" for him cuz he's ain't no all star yet so he'll put in the work to be better than the guys in the main event! Then he comes back in February even more spookier.

Wow, I stand corrected.  They announced that on the game.  I'm shocked.  But, who really cares?  Let him use it as motivation.

Did I read it right? Is Dante Exum participating? First of all, what has he done? And secondly, isn't he in his 3rd year???

Lol...what a joke of a reply. Great decision youngin! Priorities are in order early in your career. Like he said, plenty of time for dunk contests in his future. As for the comment, I have yet to see him back down from anyone from day 1. I'd prefer to judge his heart based on what he does when guarding/being guarded by someone as opposed to participating in an irrelevant p---ing match. Gerald won the dunk contest for us when he was a rookie...how has his career been so far?

Yup.
