I am all in for Fultz or Ball if they are expected to be plus defenders.  If not then I'm not nearly as interested.  Guards without defense usually don't have the impact on winning necessary to justify a top pick.  Especially since we already have Isaiah Thomas.
If they can play defense, certain options can open up for future roster management, particularly financial restrictions, and for a long-term contending.

So does anyone have any insight?

You might want to go to draftexpress.com

They always have videos of each player'sstrengths and weaknesses.  Simply stated, ball's defense is not a strength. But then look at harden. Zero defense. But a great player.

I went to draftexpress and Fultz is capable of defensive abilities while Ball is not.  I disagee with you about your view towards the importance of defense.

Actually, we agree. But harden is still great. I do loath his defense though. ;D

Ball is a smart team defender. He has very high BBIQ and he uses it on D.

When he does pressure the passer and jump into passing lanes he's good.

He does play a laid back approach seemingly saving energy.

For such a skinny kid I have noticed him getting tired with hands on hips. He does expend a lot of energy on offense.

But Kidd kills him in energy and endurance. Underrated qualities.

Ball also is a good shot blocker, helping on big guys near the hoop, and chase down blocks in transition.

Pretty much like Harden, huh. I prefer legit 2-way players.

You can't compare anyone to Hardens defense. That dude is just ridiculously bad.
