I would have said Butler in a heartbeat but with this recent bulls drama I have started drifting away from Butler. Reports are saying Crowder and Smart + Nets pick for Butler, Smart is coming on as of late and Jae is looking like his pre-ankle injury self. That Nets pick is so juicy, if it lands 1 and the Celtics trade for Butler I can see a lot of regret in a few years..

Unpopular Opinion Alert...

Trading for Melo or Ibaka is where my head is at... Keep Nets pick and possibly keep both Crowder and Smart is quite nice. You keep your future (Net pick(s)) and can play for today. How many teams can say that? Will they punt cap space? Yep, but Blake has said he's staying, Hayward most likely will since Utah is playing great.

I actually agree with you.

And to be honest, I think there is a legit chance we could get both Carmelo AND Ibaka without giving up a Nets pick.

With Ibaka, Horford and Bradley starting I feel we'd have more then enough capable defense to justify taking on Carmelo.

Would be a good fit too because Ibaka isn't the type who needs a lot of touches to be effective.  He could quite happily just sit out on the perimeter and pop up open threes off all those IT / Melo double teams (he's shooting 38% this year from three).  He would basically be our 6'10" Ray Allen haha

Rebounding would still suck of course, but with that much offensive firepower on the court almost wouldn't even matter.

Plus Ibaka / Horford would be a very solid defensive front-court, even at at this point in their careers.

I can see Ibaka as a rental, but I don't see the Magic trading him at a rental price.

Melo seems to me more and more of a lotto ticket that the Celtics will not be able to get rid of if it fails.

I completely agree, it's a very interesting position the Celtics are in. I flip back and forth over and over again on who I'd like the celts to get but the possibility of a #1 pick is so nice. What was the last #1 traded before a player was drafted (Wiggins)?

Kyrie pick, in a Baron Davis trade.

Looks like Celtics-Bulls will talk again about Butler.

You're probably looking at Crowder plus a Nets pick.

Of course the price it lists makes it a no go.

Agreed, although the proposed deal makes no sense salary wise anyway - Butler is on about $17M this season, and Smart/Crowder combined only make about $9M.

Would probably need Jerebko thrown in there as well to match salaries.

I would do Crowder, Smart, Jerebko and one of the Nets picks.

This year's has a higher chance of being top 5 but the draft is fulled with Point Guards - which we don't need.   Next year's draft probably is more likely to get us a player we'd have a use for, but then we increase the risk of Brooklyn improving a bit and the pick being worse.

Overall they have equal value to me, so I don't really care which we give.

That's understood as Crowder, Nets pick and whatever ending contracts required.

I am a firm believer or that the Celtics should trade this 2017 Brooklyn pick for a veteran. Drafting more youngsters as projects is something that we need at this juncture. The rebuild is over. Boston is built to win now.

Ifthis draft is really as appealing as people are saying it is then what could the Celtics get in return for a trade for it let's say A top 3 pick?

Some names come to mind..
Rodney Hood
Jimmy Butler (really wouldn't be willing to give up more than just the pick for him)
DeMarcus Cousins (would need a lot more)
Andrew Wiggins
Jabari Parker (pipe dream)
Julius Randle

I'll tell you right now the following players aren't worth the #1 overall pick: Rodney Hood, Wiggins, Parker, and Randle.

If you would trade a top 3 pick for randle or Rodney hood you've lost your [dang] mind.
