A wonderful exhibition on how to play soft basketball. (Horford should donate his pay for this game to a charity.)

You can't ever leave "Up-Fake" Kelly Olynyk as the only big on the floor, and surround him with tiny guards and wings...his reaction time is just too slow. He needs to be paired with another big always. Come on Brad, seriously.

Amir must be injured, he looked pathetic.

The chickens have come home to roost with our rebounding deficiency.

Funny how often these game threads are so much more active after a loss.

All this whining is painful. Worse than the game we played tonight.

But as usual half the posters here could out coach that idiot Stevens...What does he know anyway?

*sarcasm*
agreed. The whining makes the game not enjoyable.

I find blatant homerism and an unwillingness to criticize certain players or coaches annoying and unrealistic.

If you can watch this game and still think that we don't have significant holes and roster issues, then perhaps it's time for you to take the green glasses off. This team isn't doing anything in the playoffs if it can't rebound the ball or defend better.

Didn't watch the game but wowza!  How do you lose to the Knicks when they're starting Ron Baker and Porzingis isn't even playing?

Woof.

Ahhh, looking at the box score I can see what happened.

Celts went 8-33 from deep.

They were out-boarded 57-33.  18-9 edge for the Knicks on the offensive boards.

That's how you lose, somehow, even though you only turned the ball over THREE times.  Also, they had an edge in free throws attempted 29-18.  Didn't matter.

This is just who they are.  Some nights those outside shots won't fall and they won't be able to keep up on the boards to make up for it.

It's always bothered me when some of us criticize the coach or the players and then other posters criticize us.

Its not that people dislike the criticism. It's that some take it too far and it becomes whiny and annoying.

We've known for sometime that we need a big. Why are you surprised by this?

The team is constructed how it is. Not much can be done other then playing Mickey and dealing with his mistakes or making a trade and losing assets.

Colonel Potter, would you trade Zeller and a non Brooklyn pick for Manimal?

I mean, sure they are.  You can be a flawed team and still do "something" in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, if by "something" we mean "win a playoff round against an even more flawed opponent like the Bulls, Hornets, or Hawks."

I think we pretty easily would beat the Hornets, because we match-up well with them and have beaten them 6-1 over the last two seasons.

However, with how big both the Bulls and Hawks are and how much the game slows down and changes in the playoffs, I wouldn't put it past this C's team to lose to those two teams in the playoffs. This is especially true with Chicago, who has both Butler and Wade to rely on to score from iso sets. We'd still probably beat Atlanta, but they'd give us a ton of trouble down low on the boards, and I'm guessing Milsap would eat up Horford out on the perimeter, where he just doesn't belong defensively.

EDIT: Further, I don't think merely winning a playoff series is a success with this team. On the other hand, our starting lineup might be inherently flawed defensively, so I might have been a little too optimistic to begin the season. But it should be clear to everyone now that we need a starting PF with Al at the C spot.

I'd prefer a different power forward, such as Milsap, but I think he would help us significantly on the boards and defensively, even if it's just by getting Horford back to his natural spot.

We can trade for Bogut, but Ainge isn't trading assets for a good rebounding big. We're not going anywhere this year, no point in crying about it.

Smart still can't shoot. He needs to play better, seriously. It's his third year, time to be more efficient. He also hasn't been great in the P&R. Can't get past his man. Some people had him as an all star...  Horford has been lacking on D. IT has been amazing. Proved me and a lot of us wrong. Rozier needs more time, but he looked fine to me tonight. People just need a scapegoat for the lack of defense. I mean what does 2nd chance points have to do with Rozier? Nope, let's blame a 2nd year player, then don't give him credit for his positive play in the 2nd half.

Nice breakdown. Pretty much nailed every point.
