Who do you prefer as TV commentator...Tommy Heinsohn or Scalabrine?

Would like to see which commentator you'd like to see next to Mike Gorman?

I like Tommy. His bias annoys me sometimes but he gets paid to do it I guess.

I think Scalabrine can be goofy, but his combination of analysis and humor are just so much better to listen to than Tommy's yelling at the refs and 'get the big guy to ruuuuunnnn' comments.

So for me, it's Scal by a mile.

Anyway, who do you prefer and why?

I honestly have no preference. I love them both.

I agree with your assessment though and it's obvious Tommy and Scal are VERY DIFFERENT commentators, but that "spices" up the broadcasts I feel.

I cherish every moment of Tommy announcing the Celtics.

I was talking with my dad today about Scal though.  I wonder if Scal has been told that he is next in line and eventually will take over for both guys (obviously with another person). Either way he has a great gig right now.  Call half the games from a studio in Boston and go on the road for the other half.

I just think Scal has a better understanding of basketball, particularly the modern game.
Tommy provides little to no analytical input other than basic high school basketball coach stuff- which is fine for the average fan I guess.

I just love Scal's explanations of what the coaches are doing on both ends.

I would rate them from best to worst options for color commentary:

1. Scal
2. Empty seat
3. Tommy

Scal is funny and knows the league. Tommy feels like his knowledge is outdated and he is very unfunny.

I like Tommy in the studio though. His analysis is so much better when it isn't in real time. In the studio, you see his cache.

This.  I'll be very happy if scal takes over for tommy when tommy's ready to retire.  Tommy great job as player, coach and commentator.  Scal good player, good stand up comedian, good commentator.

I can't prefer Scal to Tommy; been listening to Tommy since the old days on the national broadcasts. He is like home.   I do like Scal though.
