I doubt Ainge wants him. I mean, you hear Ainge in rumors about Butler, and guys like Noel, and he even seems to acknowledge having these discussions (even if they are preliminary).

But have you heard Ainge in many Cousins rumors? Rarely, and the only time he touches upon Cousins he usually gives negative feedback, like "we don't need locker room cancers" or "from a distance, looks like Cousins has a lot of problems...". He doesn't always explicitly say "Cousins this.." or "Cousins that..", but he definitely seems to imply it.

If this is the case, we might all just be wasting our time hoping for Boogie and Boogie rumors  (and I'll admit, I would love him here too). We might find out we are wasting our time on Jimmy Butler as well if the Bulls keep winning now.

This cuts both ways, I mean usually does not show his hand until it is time to play it.  Maybe he is putting those out there to make SAC town blink and take a deal that is worse.

Hard to tell - nearly impossible to tell with Danny Ainge.

He's made small comments alluding to NOT wanting him but even these have been somewhat vague.

It was only up until the last few weeks of us even acquiring Kevin Garnett that we even knew that Danny was targeting him....did any of us see THAT coming back in Summer of 07?

Fast forward to now and we come to find out that Danny had his eyes on KG for YEARS before getting him....he played his cards and had unworldly patience until EVERYTHING lined up to get him.

The crazy thing looking back on that whole deal was that Ainge nearly gutted the team to get KG and Ray. We were left with Paul, a mostly-unknown 2nd year PG in Rajon Rondo and an inexperienced Big in Kendrick Perkins.

I don't believe ANYONE here had any clue that with what we had going OUT in trades back in 2007 to get KG was going to equal whatever we had coming IN to get us that banner in 08.

Sprinkle in some PJ Brown, James Posey, Sam I Am (AKA ET), Greg Pollard, Scalabrine, TA and Eddie House and it worked. Boy did it.

07-08 worked because KG was the glue....can Boogie repeat that same effect in BOS? I believe he can. There are some similarities in KG and Boogies' situations.....

I love this team - I really do...as it is. But we must be prepared for it to drastically change in the event that Danny pulls such a trigger again.

DMC fills in all our remaining needs. We probably wouldn't even need to make another move, that's a contender right there (unless acquiring Cousins means moving 2-3 players on this team like Bradley/Brown/Crowder).

Did Ainge say or imply a lot of negative things about KG in those rumors/discussions though?

He has about Cousins a few times.

Boogie's attitude aside, I'm not ready to say that he's everything we need.  I think there's a good chance that he's just empty stats on a bad team.  Plus his defense leaves a lot to be desired.  I know we already have two good defenders on the frontline, but we could use a shot blocker, and that's not Cousins.  Not sure he's the guy to burn a pick on.

Cousins is a good, sometimes great defender. He's 17th in the NBA in blocks, tied with Karl Towns. He's also 22nd in the NBA - and first among centers - in steals, and he's led the NBA in charges taken twice in the past three years.

I think that the question really is "Does Stevens want him".

I think that the question really is "Does Stevens want him".

I heard Ainge say personnel decisions are equally divided between himself, Stevens and Wyc.
Wyc is probably the money consideration. I suspect Stevens and Ainge are not always on the same page, which could make for a problem. I question whether a college coach with so little NBA experience should have an equal share in personnel decisions.

I also heard Stevens say that he never had any real big men at Butler--they all went to the bigger schools. So he molded his style with the smaller team he had. Sounds like he's a small team coach.

I'm not sure I agree with, or even fully understand, the "empty stats" argument.

I understand how, for example, a good player on a bad team might get more points and rebounds, because there's no one around him who can score or rebound well.

But for the person who buys the "empty stats" argument, are they saying the stats will fall off a cliff if that player goes to a good team? KG and Allen's numbers dropped in Boston—but that's bound to happen when you have good players around you. Were their pre-Boston stats "empty"?

Cousins is averaging 28 and 10, and though I'm sure his scoring would drop if he came to Boston, I don't think it would drop to like 15 points. And I'm not sure his rebounds would drop at all.
