CAn someone please explain why they like the 18 pick so much other than the idea that it could be a high pick?

There are a lot of really good looking big men in the 2018 draft.  These are the two players I would want the most.

DeAndre Ayton

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/deandre-ayton

Mohamed Bamba

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/mohamed-bamba

Also there are some talented wing players as well.  So if you like Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum this year and we draft Fultz or Ball instead, we could get a stud wing player in 2018.

Michael Porter

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/michael-porter

Kevin Knox

An interesting note is the 2018 draft is not a guard draft it is a really deep big man draft with Nick Richards a 6’11 U Kentucky commit currently projected at  #23.
http://www.nbadraft.net/players/nick-richards

There really are a bunch of 6’10 – 7’ kids with skills in the 2018 draft.

One dark horse PG/SG to keep an eye on is Luka Doncic
http://www.nbadraft.net/players/luka-doncic

He is currently playing serious minutes on Real Madrid’s A team and he hasn’t turned 18 yet!  He turns 18 in February.

The nbadraft.net highlights aren’t from Real Madrid’s A team, but these are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sPxV4YGNa0
Luka Doncic Highlights vs Oklahoma City Thunder 3rd October 2016 NBA Global Games

This shows that he can hang with NBA talent at only 17 years old.  He even played some good defense on Westbrook forcing him into a missed jump shot.

Here are some of his games playing against Euro league talent:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOvXrBV6T-M
Luka Doncic Highlights vs Zalgiris Kaunas 8th December 2016 Euroleague Clutch!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOzoHyCt_i0
Luka Doncic Highlights vs Anadolu Efes Istanbul 29th December 2016 Euroleagu

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq6EtO8wkaU&t=5s
Luka Doncic Highlights vs Baskonia 3rd January 2017 ACB

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHQWmsNcYAM
Luka Doncic Highlights vs CSKA Moscow 6th January 2017 Euroleague

TP Old School, really helpful breakdown.

Keep the picks!!

I would have felt much better if the top 3 picks had wings or bigs in the picture, rather than guards.

I think Danny will trade down, or trade the pick away. Cousins will sign with the Kings for 200 million, but we'll still have a chance to trade for Butler and George.

I would not give up either Brooklyn pick, or Brown, for Butler or George.  Those guys don't get us over the GS/CLE hump. If a trade does not take us to the top, hang onto our very valuable future.  Even the Memphis pick could end up having a lot of value by the time it comes to fruition.

What's wrong with enjoying our team play very competitively for the next couple of years, and building to compete vs. the next wave of super teams: MN, PHIL, MIL, and LAL (given FA destination).  I'd rather keep on building through the draft unless a no-brainer KG like trade came along. And remember we already had two 30 plus All Stars on our squad when that trade was made.  Today we have one All Star in IT, and he is only 27.

Patience!!

With Zizic joining us next year, and the prospect of a guy like Giles, I think our future underneath is going to be very solid. That is where we are weakest currently. It will take a couple of years for those guys to really contribute, but I can wait.

I honestly feel like we have too many prospects, our whole bench is a project at this point and we now need to either replace these with superior ones, or get rid of the better prospects for more establish talent.

Now in my estimation, Jimmy Butler is not knocking off LeBron James' team in any Finals series, neither is Blake Griffin, neither is Cousins, and definitely not Gordon Hayward. Sure, Stevens can systemize everything perfectly and have a group with IT, Horford and "acquired star" actually win 55+ games. But in the playoffs individual heroics take over.

We're going to need a guy that can be a top 3 player in this league to get by LeBron.

With that logic, we probably aren't contending for the next 4-5 years then.

I think if you add Paul George or Cousins you have a chance honestly, even in the playoffs.

One thing the Cavaliers and Warriors hate is playing guys with size, especially the Warriors.

I think I'll wait on Zizic, given this board's penchant for overreacting to Euros.

Little early to be counting on him.

In terms of things that degrade the quality of discussion, I'd rate overreacting to Euros as less bothersome than making sweeping and insulting generalizations about "the board."

Have you seen any of these guys play a game? I would trade that 18 pick in a heartbeat for an all star level player no matter if that player puts them over the top or not. I dont know how many times people have seen Ayton play but by no means is he a lock to be a star or to even make an all star game with the current issues he presents. I would give up a chance at any of the prospects you mentioned because I dont think they are nearly as good as the players in the top 8 of this draft.

I've seen Doncic since he played vs OKC this year and you can watch some euro league on line.  But I'm loving the physical tools of Bamba 6'11 with a 7'8 wingspan.  It's clear from his highlights that he has range on his jump shot and he can move well. He's on the skinny side but he's still in HS.

After tonight's game, I'm convinced this is the route we should go in.

Butler or Hayward doesn't thread the needle for us. Let's end that nonsense.

We need BIGS.... BIGS AND BIGS. Valanciunas ATE up this team tonight.

We aren't beating the Tristan Thompson's out there by trotting out Olynyk and Zeller...

I'm coming around to this idea. I'm not even sure a favorable Cousins trade could make us true contenders with as many weak spots as we have.

I'm interested in your general assessment of Giles.  He looks both talented and athletic for an NBA big, but what about his knees? Would you draft him at #3-5?
