I imagine most of these conversations just involve Ainge laughing uncontrollably into his phone and hanging up.

It could be the other way around in some cases.

Ainge: "Can we have Anthony Davis for th... hello.. hello???"

Ainge: "Can we have Paul George for this Nets Pick + extra.."
Bird: "Of course.... NOT" (hangs up)

Have they not been calling about the Nets pick(s) since the trade happened?

People really think he's lying? For real?

Brooklyn is in the #1 slot for a pretty loaded draft while Boston, who owns the pick, has been trying to make a big trade for 3 years. You REALLY think no ones called about that pick? Of course they have. It's almost a lock for the top 3. If you were even considering moving a big name guy on your roster, your first call has got to be Ainge to see if you can get a legit shot a #1 overall pick.

Now, It could've easily been Sacto calling about Cousins or it could've been Orlando saying "We'll give you Vucavic and Payton for that Brooklyn pick and Crowder", to which Ainge immediately slammed down the phone, but regardless, I have NO doubts he's gotten calls about it.

Ainge is in the driver's seat with those Nets picks. He should be able to get first dibs on players like Cousins and whoever else of that caliber that comes on the market. We'll see if he opts out for cheaper with Bogut. Though he may not be through if he gets Bogut. It might also be Noel if the price is right.

I think Ainge is lying

I hate these little rumors... Teams have called. Cant give you details. Munch on this

Or teams offering something ridiculous like Jrue Holiday for the pick

This is a pretty bizarre take. Is your belief that teams don't want to get access to a draft pick currently slated with the best chance to be number 1? If you follow basketball surely you understand that is a great thing to have and team would want it right?

It's probably a bit of both.

More often than not teams will call Ainge, but I'm sure Ainge has made a few phone calls as well to get "feelers". Still early in the season to decide about trades and such.

The only realistic options I give this years pick up for is Paul George or Cousins. When I say realistic, its probably a 10-20% chance that it actually happens. George is the best case scenario, and as the Pacers continue to tumble towards mediocrity heading towards the deadline - I'd say it goes from a 10% chance to maybe close to 30-40% that he gets dealt, especially if he continues to show his frustration a bit with the organization. Worse thing they did was fire Vogel.

In my opinion, the Pacers would be silly not to explore our 2017 pick as an option to replace George. So much premier talent coming out of that draft to build around.

2017 Nets pick, Grizzlies pick, our first rounder next year plus Crowder, Zeller, Rozier? George replaces Crowder in the starting lineup plus frees up minutes for Jaylen as the primary back up 3.

I bet it's fun for Ainge, given I'm sure he's made some of those calls in the past year too.

Do you think he likes to torture GMs with the stalling? He's been killing us...

What teams have the cajones to ask about that pick, and what do they expect to send back?

You know the Sixers are dangling Noel and Okafor for it, probably.
The Nuggets offering Nurkic?
The Hawks offering Milsap?
Could the Magic think they could send Vucevic for it?
Miami offering Dragic? Or Whiteside?
Nets offering Lopez?
Suns offering Bledsoe?

I mean, if the Bulls, Pacers, or Kings were offering Butler, George, or Cousins, I'd think the deal would already be done. So it's probably not them?

I'm think the "teams" that Ainge is referring to are probably the Hawks for Milsap and the Nets for Lopez. Even though the Sixers probably already have two lottery picks next year, they could be offering Noel or Okafor.

Most of those deals seem like a low-ball offer.

Umm. how many years on that PG13 contract? Markelle Fultz could be a star at a much more important position for 4 years, making way less than PG13. PG 13 is not a superstar, look at where his team is now after being way more hyped than ours. I think he's plateau'd.

It's really hard to trade a possible #1 overall pick, though.

Unless you're getting (a) a franchise talent or (b) the finishing piece to your contender, there's too great a chance that the guy you get back won't make the kind of difference the pick could have made if you used it.

If Sacramento, Chicago, or Indiana call about the pick, Ainge should listen.  I wouldn't trade both Nets picks for any of the guys those teams have, though.

If I were those teams, I would probably stick with the franchise player I have, anyway.  Especially with the new CBA.  Chicago's got Jimmy locked up for a while and both Cousins and George will likely get re-signed for 5 years at the max.

I get that. I like the draft prospects as well, dont get me wrong, but as this team is constructed Paul George helps this team more than those guys potentially will during this current run we have.

I think saying Paul George is not a superstar is not giving him enough credit as a player. Ive seen him take over way too many games and hes been a proven commodity in the playoffs. Management did a horrible job constructing that roster around him. Teague, Monta Ellis - they are all chuckers who dont move the needle. He cant do it all on his own.

Do these teams know that 2017 is just a right to swap picks. What if Nets go on a roll and overtake the Cs. Haha
