Sure we lost to the Cavs last night, but I just wanted to say a few things that makes me still optimistic

Celtics vs Cavs
1. Came back from 20 pt down to almost tie the game
2. Brown still developing
3. LeBron has 8 turnovers, defense can still improve imo
4. Smart does not back down attitude against LeBron.
5. Bradley is improving year by year, I criticized him every year and every year he improved on those, ball handling, rebounding, even his passing improved

Non-Celtics related
6. well Toronto lost yesterday, so our chase for even the #2 spot is still realistic
7. Nets still suck

This Celtics team is still so fun to watch

Happy New Year guys :)

3.5 back of the 2 seed. With Toronto playing about as well as theyd expect and Boston playing a ton of road games and having a lot of stuff go pretty wrong.

Its still in play.

Give it time, I think Sully will hurt TOR when he gets into the lineup.

I was thinking the past few days that it had been pretty quiet on Celticsblog since the Cs started playing so well. So of course, what happens? The Celtics lose to the best team in the league while showing a ton of grit and toughness and suddeny there are a half dozen threads criticizing the Celtics three point shooting, twp threads complaining how much we need Cousins because the first 500 werent enough, the Celtics losing to the the lwagues best teams, and more threads telling us how the Celtics need more bigs. It seems like the only time this blog gets busy is when people are complaining after losses.

Personally, I like the fact the Cs are the 3rd best team in the East and probably top 8 in the league. I am happy with the play of the starters now that they are all healthy. I like the fact that we have young players like Smart, Rozier, and Brown in the rotation and getting time to work on their games. I love the fact we have two awesome picks in the next 2 years. I love the fact that the Cs have one of the best bunch of available assets to trade for a superstar. Simply, I love my Celtics and see no reason to complain right now.

It's been quiet because I took several days off for Christmas. That probably brought the level of whine down by about a factor of 2.

We're about where I expected: on the same tier with Toronto (if healthy), but way below GS/Cleveland.  It's not super exciting but there's no reason to be doom and gloom.

This blog embarrassed itself today. The bitterness levels defy statistical probability. I guess we need to get back to piling up wins or this board is not worth reading.

I can't say I disagree. We were on the road against the defending champion team with all their stars playing healthy and forced to play major minutes. We had a wide open 3 miss with about a minute left that would have put us in the lead. It was our second loss in the last 8 games since IT came back. People that have found it hard to complain with us winning all the time recently used this as their chance to complain loudly. Disappointing.

It was a good game and nothing to get on the ledge over. Sure we still need a rebounder and will need to make a trade. For a team with the 3rd best record in the east and positioned to get a top 3 and possibly top overall pick there really is not a lot to complain about at the moment. What would people be like if we were the Dallas Mavericks? The Phoenix suns?

This blog is a waste of time when it comes to days like today. It was one loss against the current champion. No big deal.

What I saw is that Cleveland looks vulnerable to injuries. I won't wish for injuries to Cleveland and Golden Sate or at least I won't admit to doing so, but they could happen and we could steal a title.

You'd think people could at least wait until the trading deadline passed to enter into despair and condemn the team.

One guy claims we aren't even a 48 win team and that last year was overachieving.

Gerald Green has busted out. Brown looked very good last night.

Even scrubs like Jerebko and Zeller looked good meaning perhaps they have some trade value.

Maybe Danny will sign Larry Sanders. Maybe he will trade for Noel.

Keep breathing, everyone. It will be okay.

I didn't see any of this whining when we beat Memphis twice.

These people are probably hoping we get upset tonight by Miami so they can come back here and share more of their miserable projections.

I think this is misreading the cause of these topics.

Obviously you have the knuckleheads that say we are doomed and we suck. They come out when we lose. Then you have the knuckleheads that think we are contenders. They come out when we win.

95% of the blog Id say, is not a "hater" or a "green-teamer" when we win games against bad teams or good but not top tier teams (like Memphis) you wont see quite the level of optimism because thats what is expected. You cant learn anything from beating Memphis and Miami. We know that we can beat those teams.

We also know what the weaknesses are. we know we struggle rebounding. Rely perhaps too much on the 3 point shot, and need another scorer. Everyone knows this.

however, when you play Cleveland its a good opportunity to see exactly how badly you need those things.

We were reminded last night that each flaw is as serious as we thought it was.

So, the reaction is obvious, lets solve these problems so we can reach the next level.

It does not mean we are doomed, or that we are in a bad place, but there is still work to be done. A lot of it. Everyone can acknowledge that much.

I'm not sure how anyone can think we're in the same tier with Toronto. They are 22-10 and on pace for another 55+ win season. Toronto is closer to Cleveland than we are to Toronto.

Celtics Clay - We are in agreement. Many of the points made by negative people are valid, but the problem seems to be in the way they discuss it. One guy admitted that he was very angry!

I went in feeling very positive and thinking 60 wins, but then injuries happened.

I am getting by realizing there is the trading deadline for this year and all the positives in play for the future.

Maybe we can steal a title during these bridge years. Maybe not. It is amazing how far the team has progressed since the days of Humphries, Wallace and Bogans.

The foundation of our high future ranking was not ruined by a close loss to LeBron. If anything, such losses should reinforce hope. Irving and Love looked fragile last night. Injuries are part of the game and that's why neither Golden State nor the Cavs have any guarantees. Maybe Toronto will steal the title. We are in the hunt with a great foundation.

This rebuild is the opposite of the last one. Our future success could last a whole decade once it solidifies in the next year or three. Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait. Etc..

I frankly don't know how Danny and Brad have pulled this off so quickly and one regular season loss changes none of it. James Young certainly looks like a sunken loss, but we are only just beginning to tap into the Brooklyn payoff. It could take some years. So what? I'll start crying only if it becomes obvious Jaylen Brown will never be a star and Marcus Smart is overrated. I will need to be convinced of things like that before jumping ship.

We have a deep team with many young players ready to take leaps. If a guy like Olynyk doesn't do it, he's gone. If he breaks loose this year, he's coming back. No problem. If we can't win with Isaiah as a little guy, he won't be here in a couple years. So appreciate his fun game while he's here and maybe he will stay. Following the Celtics goes beyond wins and losses. Some people watch soap operas. People like us follow the Celtics.

I could see myself stopping as a blogger here, but I don't see myself giving up on the Celtics for at least ten years and that is a very long time.

My main point is that we are sitting pretty and it's no fun to come here and see an avalanche of negativity based on one loss.

We were with them shot for shot the 1st half.  Had a terrible 3rd quarter then had a very good 4th.  M arcus flipped a switch after Lebron pushed him.  This board and most fans in general have a tendency to fall off a cliff game to game in the nba when teams go on runs.  I'd rather be living in reality.

I don't see Ainge doing that or jumping on boogie and picking up a phone to make a hasty move.  That's just some fans.  I'm glad Ainge is smarter than that.

People act like Cleveland is this unbeatable force when honestly Lebron has to be one of the most overrated egotistical superstars in the history of the game.

Lebron, Kyrie and Love are not this unbeatable force.

This teams structure is significantly flawed. We are way too thin at the big man position and lack talent and are too young at the small forward position.

Without fixing these glaring holes on our roster, we will not be a serious contender any time soon.

I'm going to the game tonight. I expect a win, but could easily see this as a letdown game.
