Smart post ups

Brad called for a few post ups by Smart in the 2nd quarter of today's game, and they all worked out really well.

What I'm wondering is: is it possible that posting up Smart might be one of the better ways to utilize him on offense? He's a pretty adept passer, and I'm confident that with his size he can bully a ton of guards down on the block. Not to mention he's pretty great at following up/second chance plays, so I could see him grabbing a lot of his own rebounds on short misses. I was surprised that Brad didn't actually go back to this at all in the 2nd half of the game.

At any rate, I really liked seeing that and I think it could probably be busted out a bit more often.

I love their offense through Marcus in the post.  He gets higher percentage looks, more opportunities for contact and FTs, and the ball goes inside-out to shooters.

Right, I totally forgot to even mention the FT opportunities which is something this team (and Smart in particular) needs. Like I said, I think it's a really good look and I don't see the downside of running this a few more times per game.

Smart will have to show that he can score consistently from the post.  Otherwise, teams will just play him to pass and the effectiveness will go way down.

I'm interested in where Smart's offensive progression ends up. The who's who of point guards all have great post play so I'd say this type of behavior is welcomed.  Take away some of the poor turnovers and shots and who knows, Danny might have found something truly special.

I think it's a good idea to go to Smart in the post, as he seems to be pretty good at it. Seems even better when juxtaposed against his pretty bad outside shooting.

I think that was something that Marcus wasn't able to do much in the early part of the season, as he played a lot of the 3 with Crowder injured.  As he plays matched up more against guards, he should hopefully have more opportunities in the post.

worth noting that marcus smart can body 90% of the pgs in this league. I would love to see him and russell westbrook in the octagon.

Yeah don't get me wrong Smart in the post is great and he's gonna have the upper Jan there against maybe every point guard in the league. It's just usually he's not gonna be able to bully his opponents quite so easily.

IT is the knicks.  Good to see the Celtics using that though.  Tired of seeing everyone play alike.

He doesn't need to bully them, just needs to establish position to get within 10 feet.  He can make those shots over his defenders, teams will collapse on him, and then the ball moves.
