With last nights victory the Celtics are now tied with the Knicks for third place in the Eastern Conference.  Al has missed a chunk of games (10 I think?) Jae has been banged up, and IT has been out recently....yet the team is still tied for third place!

More importantly the defense is starting to click.  After struggling to open the season, the Celtics have the 10th best Defensive rating over the last 10 games (14th overall on the season, all stats taken from NBA.com)

Given the injuries we have suffered, and the rocky start our defense had to open the season, I would say that the Celtics are in good position right now.  Too early to panic on this team, and hopefully with continued health and improvement from our young guys we can separate ourselves from the middle seeds of the conference and make a run at Toronto for the #2 seed.

Lets go Celtics!

Tied for 3rd with a weak winning record at 14-12 and in a weak East conference...   so being 3rd is not saying much...

The only thing that matters is whether the Celts can make the playoffs and win at least one playoff round series.   Even that isn't saying much in the grand scheme of things.

Totally healthy this team is still FAR from challenging for the East title or going to the NBA finals.

While I appreciate the optimism, 3rd place is only a game and a half ahead of 10th

I agree with both of you, but my point was to not be down on this team since we have not played a lot of games with everyone healthy, and to mention that the defense is starting to figure things out.

We still need to beat a healthy team with a good winning record, and of course make something happen in the playoffs.  I don't see the Celtics on the same level as the top elite teams in the league, but they should be able to separate themselves from the 3-10 pack and cement themselves as a team that you have to take seriously.  Hopefully we can add another piece that will help us win some games this year.
