His moving without the ball stinks sometimes and his jumper can be suspect.   His ball-handling needs some work, sometimes he is thinking what he wants to do instead of just doing it.   These are things that he can improve.   His defense is very good for a rookie.   I think his future is very bright and it was a solid pick by Ainge.  He seems to learn very fast, and seems to work hard on his game.

I enjoy him because of his vast potential and anytime he is in game he can make an electrifying play.  I get excited when he enters the game!

I can't imagine that anyone doesn't feel at least OK with the pick at this point.  He has progressed well.  Jamaal Murray for example is shooting 0.333 in December scoring 7.3 points in about 22 minutes.  He is in the same boat as Brown as are most of the other players picked 2-8.  They are doing fine.  Their teams should be happy with the pick.

Great pick?  I am not sure how to define that.  Are Murray or Ingram or Simmons great picks too?  How many great picks can there be in any one draft?  Is one pick the Greatest.  Is it a great pick if Brown turns out better than Murray, Heild, Dunn or does he have to turn out better than Ingram.

I think this is more the debate.  No one should be saying Brown was a bad pick (much easier to identify) but it is hard to have everyone have the same expectation as to what constitutes a great pick.

I'm not willing to concede anything.  He's had flash moments but the guy isn't special.  Hopefully he'd me wrong.

Being a casual fan in the midwest I dont' get to see Brown play that much but I am impressed with what I do see. The guy can drive and pull up on the drive and shoot. Those are both huge for a rookie. As his mind and body mature I think he will become a very solid player, possibly a star. He has all of the tools to become one if he can put them all together.

Yes, I'm not willing to concede that he was a great pick, but not because of his potential. I was in favor of drafting Jaylen Brown when we did so.

He's had a few good games, but it's hard to label him a great pick on the basis of those. Having said that, I'm happy with the pick and wouldn't do it differently if I could do it again.

One other thing: I was at the game against Toronto that night. He had an energy that nobody else matched and played about nine feet above the rim. I swear, at one point, I think he almost high-fived a guy in Section 323 while going up to get a rebound.

Compared to all the other players drafted after #3; I'm pretty happy with Jaylen so far. Obviously he is not going to light up the NBA this year, but he is an exciting pick for the future.

What's he done so far to definitively change the mind of somebody who was skeptical about picking him at 3 instead of Bender, Dunn, or Murray?

Brown has shown a decent jumper and excellent finishing.  Potential for days.  His rebounding is pretty mediocre for his size / strength / athleticism, and his playmaking isn't there at all (in fairness, he's only being asked to be a finisher).

There's plenty of reason for optimism but still plenty of reason to withhold enthusiasm somewhat.

Good pick or not, I don't know... I just don't think he's a player.

Well not sure about 'great' just yet, but certainly he was a good pick, partly because I hadn't done much research on the guy, and what I see so far is impressive for a 19-year old.

Celtics4ever, summarized his good/bad points very nicely.

If Jaylen gets minutes, he could be a 20ppg scorer next season.

Murray has shown that he can an impressive scorer, but hasn't shown defensive chops. Neither Bender or Dunn have been very impressive. I much prefer jB to all three. Ingram hasn't wowed me either. Only "rookie" that I'd rather have is Embiid, who has missed two seasons with injuries.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Brown has looked good finishing one-dribble drives over the last couple of game. But then again, so did Tony Allen at one point, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

What I like most about the Jaylen Brown pick is that there was always a clear path to being a successful NBA player for him to follow.  From day one, the organizational message was that if Jaylen could utilize his ability to drive effectively and pick up fouls and he'd be a usable asset for this team.  They picked the youngest most athletic guy with that skill set.

I think Jamal Murray would have been an equally good, or possibly better pick because he's got the inverse foundational skills of Jaylen.  He's got a phenomenal shot and can drive a little bit.  I also loved that Murray was best guy in his entire country in highschool and then again the best player on a stacked college team as freshman.  I think that tells you a lot about his wiring.

Hopefully both guys will become really good players, but so far both have looked like the inexperienced players they are 80% of the time while flashing tremendous potential the rest of the time.

Among this years drafted rookies, Brown is 11th in ppg, 16th in rpg, 15th in apg, and 12th in mpg.  Even his 3PT shooting which has been a surprise he is 10th in.

There are things to be excited about for sure, but he has thus far been outplayed by Murray and Chriss who were both considered in that same 3-8 basically interchangeable player range entering the draft.

Maybe Brown becomes the best player in the draft.  Maybe Brown becomes a terrible pick based on his draft position.  24 games in on a guy playing less than 15 mpg, is way too early to make any sort of statement on what Brown becomes which means it is away to early to call him a great pick.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

too early to proclaim him a great pick but he's definitely looked like a solid choice at that spot so far.  plenty to be optimistic about.  certainly looks to be far from the bust some predicted/feared
