Steve Bulpett: Isaiah Thomas admits to Herald he skipped out on media last night because he was afraid of what he might say… Story to be posted soon.

Quote
“Yeah,” Thomas said Thursday as the Celts gathered for an event at Boston Children’s Hospital, acknowledging that he wanted to avoid the media in that moment. “Now my thing is to just not comment on things and let myself cool down, because it’s very frustrating the way we’re losing games.

“Yeah, I was very upset. I still am. I mean, somehow, some way, we can’t lose games like that, especially on our home floor. We’ve all got to do better.”

Asked specifically what disturbed him, Thomas said, “Everything about the game, the loss. ... And a few more other things, but I’m not going to get into that.”

The vibe I'm getting from the article is that Thomas and Stevens might be having a disconnect regarding the way the reserves are being handled minutes wise. Thomas wants to be on the floor more and I agree with him.

"turmoil" might be a little too strong

but safe to say playing time split among 10-11 guys (often in the 1st Q) - leads to lack of chemistry

it took stevens well in to January to go w/ rotation last season

he cant wait that long this year

pick 9 and go - doesn't have to be same 9 every night - but its not working right now

try something different

Stevens has four starters averaging over 30 minutes.  A quick check of about a half dozen teams roughly comparable to Boston (playoff contenders but not title contenders) finds only one other team has that many players averaging over 30.  The rest have only one to three playing that much.  I'm not sure what IT has to complain about.

But I think Stevens rotation decisions are still a little sketchy, even now in his fourth season.  I know it's hard to play a young rookie like Jaylen when you're trying to win 45+ games but this play five minutes in the first half and then nothing is unacceptable.

Good.  I hope this lights a fire under Ainge's ass.  Shake this team up.

It probably has a lot to do with him sitting the first 6-7 minutes of the fourth. He also was sitting when Stevens went with a defensive lineup one trip.

I love IT but I think he desperately wants to get to 28 points plus to be like AI. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. It certainly will hurt other players ability to contribute but IT is an overall efficient player so giving him more minutes might be good for the team.

There's more than one way to build a champion. Not every championship team has to be the '08 Celtics.

Where did those veteran talents start from? They were picks. They developed into the veteran talent you want.  You know, there's something called player development. A recent champion named the Golden State Warriors was built almost entirely off of player development.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Good point. But the Warriors had established veterans playing at a high level before their superstars developed. AI, Lee, Bogut etc

“Guys are getting more opportunities on the offensive end, so maybe that means they’re taking a step back defensively, which is not good,” Thomas said. “It’s hard to play both ends of the floor at a high level, and that’s why only a few players in this league can do that. But we’ve just got to get that mindset back of being a defensive team and then letting the offense take care of itself.

“It’s fool’s gold the way we’re playing offense so good.”

Is IT really going to have the cajones to criticize the defense of others, specifically sounding like Bradley, Crowder, and Smart, when he's one of the main reasons our defense has been mediocre?? Freaking Ish Smith went off with IT guarding him, torching him for 19 points on 75% shooting. Seems like IT needs a reality check, because he's just as much, if not more, of a reason why our defense is struggling as any other reason.

Honestly, Smart and Horford are the only ones who can't really be criticized for their defense, since they pretty much bring it every single possession on every single night. And though Smart can be roundly criticized for his shooting and scoring, there's not much to be complained about with Horford, who is pretty much playing very well-rounded ball. In fact, the only thing you can complain about with Horford is that he's not being aggressive enough.

This is a problem that's largely with most of the team, but the fact that IT is really complaining about others' defense seems to suggest that he needs a reality check regarding his own play.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

There's also no Steph Curry or Klay Thompson on this team, and not likely to be anytime soon.
