If the year we finally got the #1 pick in the draft (via BKN) that the best player would end up being Fultz when ideally we would get a stud PF (that is our team's biggest weakness IMO). Please don't shoot me for asking, but what would we do in this case? Fultz could end up being a better Westbrook, but playing him at the 2 wouldn't make sense... we couldn't trade IT, it would make our organization look bad. Maybe it would be better in the grand scheme of things to just get pick 4 or 5 this year? I wish there was a Towns like player in this year's draft....

That makes no sense.  The players available at 4 and 5 are also there at 1.  The top pick would allow Danny to get the player he thinks is best AND have better trade value if needed. The only downside is that the salary is higher, but it would still be a bargain contract so it doesn't matter.

If Fultz looks like a better version of Westbrook (which I doubt, but whatever), you draft him. End of story.  You can figure out fit later, but you absolutely have to take the best talent available with a high pick, ESPECIALLY the first overall pick.  You don't leave MJ on the table and draft Sam Bowie just because you think he'll fit better
I'm bitter.

I generally would agree with you, but we have made IT the face of the franchise, he recruited Horford, etc... I personally am of the belief we must build through the draft, so that colors my perspective (I would rather not trade the pick if it is that high - it's not worth it for 1 year of Cousins, whom I really love too).

Fultz does have potential to be very special, and I typically am not high on PG/SG in drafts. We really need a gamechanging big, maybe it will be Jonathan Isaac

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

I don't think we should really worry about this until after the draft lottery.

Also, hopefully Danny would be able to make the 'correct' decision if we drafted #1. If the consensus is Fultz, I agree with BJ and you make the pick.

I think he's talking about trading down if we get the #1 and picking up another asset or player.  TBH, I am not at all familiar with this draft class just yet.
