If we get the 1st pick, plus fillers, is it worth it for Cousins?

I'm as big of a Boogie supporter as you'll find. That would be a devastating turn of events.

Wow.. The 1st over all pick in the Draft..  hmmmmm.

If the pick was a stud player..  A Karl A Towns type..  I keep the pick, Trade Al & IT. Then Start my decade and a half Dynasty around Brown, Bradly, Rozier, the Pick the 2 stashed guys and the Strong kid in the Dleague right now..

I'd give up the Nets pick and more if we could get Cousins now without losing any of our core pieces.  That would give us two legit shots at the Championship even if Cousins left at the end of his contract.  As a 1 year rental, I wouldn't give up the actual #1 pick for Cousins and I would not trust his agent's word on re-signing here.

I could see the Sixers having a strong preference for who would work best with Simmons and Embiid.  If there is no consensus #1 pick but a few good options, we might trade down a couple spots with the Sixers and pickup the Lakers pick or that unprotected Kings 2019 1st.
I assume you plan to get one of their centers when trading down.  Which one are you proposing --> the D-only prospect nearing the end of his rookie deal where he'll cost a lot to resign OR the O-only prospect that hasn't shown much on D?

if Danny trades the #1 pick for a center, it had better be an established 2-way player not still-developing 1-way player

Yes - IF you have a chance to land the Boston Franchise why would you keep both IT and Hortord.. The 2 of them together would not be enough to win a chip.  Move them, Your Future at that point would be in the Kids..  Brown, Smart, Rozier - drafted Stud and some other Young budding Star you can get from trading IT and Al..
Eventually the Celtics are going to have to make a choice in what Direction we want to go in.. This Glut of Picks will run out.. When it does we better have something long lasting to show for it..

I'd want to keep the next Karl Towns, too, but I don't think he's out there. Even if he was, it's tough to build a contender.  Look at the Twolves. Are they going to be contenders in the next five years? If I had to bet, I'd say they don't make it out of the second round in that time frame.

I'm a bit torn on that trade, but Ainge would and that is all that matters.  Ainge didn't sign Horford to build around the Brooklyn picks, he signed Horford to go into a win now mode and trading the 1st pick for Cousins is the quintessential win now trade.

You don't know if Ainge would actually. He hasn't traded anything of value since we started rebuilding.
he also hasn't had Cousins available.  But from the reports, Ainge has in fact offered things of value.  He admitted he tried to trade the Brooklyn pick at the deadline last year, but that the other team backed out of the deal.  He tried to trade 4 first rounders to move up 6 spots to draft Winslow.  And his past history, says he will trade high draft picks to acquire stars.  I mean he traded 5 for a supposedly washed up Ray Allen.

If Ainge could acquire Cousins for 1 and filler (not real assets but actual filler) there is no question at all he would do it.  He didn't sign Horford to build around the Brooklyn picks, he signed Horford to try and build a contender around Horford.  Cousins is one of the few potentially available players that could elevate Boston into a real true contender overnight.  Those players don't come around very much.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I heard Ainge say on NBA network that personnel decisions are made jointly by himself, Stevens and Wyc (the ownership). That means Stevens has significant input to personnel decisions. Which is probably why Zeller is still around. My impression is Stevens sees no need for a big inside rebounder. I'm not sure Ainge agrees, having played for the Celtics and knowing their winning tradition better.

What I'm saying is maybe Stevens doesn't want a player like Cousins. Or any of the other athletic bigs that play near the basket who Ainge has passed up in drafts and trades. That could include Noel. If so, I think the Celtics will have a hard time getting to the next level.

I highly doubt this is how Stevens feels.  I am pretty sure everyone wants good rebounders.  But you have to evaluate the entire package.  Is that all they can do and what will they cost and how to we get them?

I wasn't even thinking about Noel or Okafor.  If Ainge has the top 3 or 4 players rated the same and doesn't have a strong preference for any of them, trading down a couple spots to pick up additional picks would be one way to get more value out of the pick.  Picking up Okafor instead would be an option.  Noel will be an RFA so I don't think he can be traded after the trade deadline except for a sign and trade in free agency.

If this draft doesn't have a Simmons level #1 player, I don't see why anyone would trade a good established 2-way player unless it was a one year rental like Cousins.

The #1 overall pick in the draft?  Cousins isn't worth that.  Maybe the Brooklyn 2018 plus pieces.  He has never gotten along in Sacramento and the Kings have never won anything with him in place.  I don't think they have the strongest bargaining position considering they drafted like 4 centers in this past draft alone.  They are planning to move on from Cousins.

Cousins is going to be expensive but he's not worth the #1 overall pick in the entire draft.

Win now or win later... Ainge got Horford because he's a very good player and he didn't have to give up anything to get him.  Even if he wanted to win later signing Horford was a no-brainer.
