If I'm not mistaken, Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko will walk and probably get larger contracts with other teams.

There's a chance KO leaves as well if the C's don't reach an extension with him.

So that leaves Boston with Horford, Zeller and Mickey as their "bigs" next season (After Horford, yuck). Zeller is just a "tradeable contract" at this point who is below-average this season (though his mid-range J's are falling, his defense is atrocious and he can't match up well against opposing bigs most nights)

That's going to be a whole bigger issue going forward. Everyone says "sign Hayward", but if that's the logic.. then rebounding and shot-blocking will get A LOT WORSE, and it would sort of negate the impact of signing Hayward to a max.

Getting size is what will help BOS become contenders to challenge GSW (look at yesterday's game without Crowder + Horford), and Cleveland. Playing small most of the game won't, unless you'd like Tristan Thompson alone to kill us again.

I'll just be happy to see Zeller not on this team next season. Don't want a "risk of concussion from Zeller" to be a reason for big free agents to not come to Boston next season.

That's great, but then you're literally down to Horford and Mickey.

Yeah, completely agree that Zeller, Jerebko and Amir have been REALLY underwhelming so far, but unless the C's can address the 4/5 position soon and into the next offseason, it gets A LOT worse for this team when 2 of them (or maybe all) leave.

Honestly, given what we have seen so far, how could any sane person be upset with our size walking?   We need upgrades there badly.

From what I've seen, all that size "walking away" would be a benefit--forcing Ainge to get off his duff and get some rebounding and defense up front. And don't talk to me about Hayward.

Seems you are leaving Yabusele and Zizic out of the equation. I know these are young players but I am not too worried about losing mediocre bigs.  They can be replaced.

This.

Plus trades. Plus FA's. Plus Al Horford.

Not an issue. We need to get better up front, and letting those guys walk if it frees up roster space is a good thing. Not a bad. That's how you get better.

A little worried about Kelly's lack of development. Maybe he is still transitioning from his recovery.  But he seems very tentative. Also not as creative on offense as I remember. Plus refs seem to give him no respect when he gets fouled.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I see Horford and KO as the only bigs still around after this year. Zeller, Amir, and JJ are all playing their way out the door (or as trade fodder) and Mickey isn't doing anything to really prove he shouldn't be replaced by Zizic/Yab.

I realize KO has played like crap the last two games, but Danny/Brad brought him to the Durant meeting -  like for reals. He has a unique game with his combination of size, shooting, and playmaking, and if we are able to fit his QO around this alleged max FA that wants to sign with us next off-season, then he will surely stay.

Why do I feel like the word "size" should be in quotes instead?
I trust Danny Ainge

I was actually thinking about doing that.. but then I came to the sad realization that this team is SO small that.. yep, those guys are the "size" we have (there I said it).

There's some depth now at least with Horford gone.

All three of the players listed are most likely trade filler for an upcoming trade before the trade deadline. Also, I think Danny is targeting Blake Griffin this offseason, not Hayward.

To be more accurate, the only big who will 100% be here next year is Horford. Mickey and Zeller's deals are unguaranteed, and I would expect Zeller will be gone and Mickey may be. In fact, the big I feel most comfortable saying will be here (after Horford) is Zizic.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I think so but the Clippers are 11-2.

I think Griffin will sign an extension to stay there. He loves LA.
