You know, watching Harrison Barnes last night made me think of comparisons. When I look at a guy like Brandon Ingram, I see Harrison Barnes. He is a potential 20 ppg guy, but most of his points are going to come in mid-range pull-up and spotup threes. While Barnes and Ingram can drive, they are not explosive enough to beat their man off the dribble or power through contact at the rim consistently. I'm not knocking those guys - they score in their own way. While these guys certainly will help your team, can you trust them to consistently create offense against a playoff defense? Sometimes yes, but consistently?
That's why I like Brown's POTENTIAL (not saying he is currently better than Barnes). He's got the trifector when it comes to driving: 1) He has the elite explosiveness to beat his man and power through contact, 2) He has the euro-steps and cross-steps to beat help defenders in creative ways, and 3) He can finish with both hands, off both feet or two feet, finger-rolls, dunks, and double pumps.
Obviously, Brown is not as well-rounded in his jumpshot as Ingram or Barnes. They are different players. But it is hard not to be excited about his driving potential. If his work ethic stays strong, his mid-range pullups and spotups might be pretty good too.
