We are getting killed on the boards. We're a strange team in that our guards (Bradley, smart, Rozier) are probably better rebounders than our bigs (Kelly, Zeller, jerebko). And it doesn't help that this year, it seems teams are exploiting the IT matchup more than before.

It doesn't show up on the box score but if IT can't contain his man, the defense needs to react and so, we've been pretty poor defensively to start the year. Injuries play a part, obviously, but I have a hard time imagining we'd be much better if we had Sullinger out there.

In times like these, I wonder how good of a fit a guy like Deandre Jordan would be on this team.

We are consistently bad in rebounding for some years now. I had read on ESPN that we are shortest team this year, and Sullinger was a pretty good rebounder if you look at his rebounding rates. So it is normal we would be bad, but rebounding is also about effort. When you lack both the physical tools and the effort to grab rebounds, and give many second/third chances, your defense is doomed.

In the short term, we must show more effort and hustle to grab rebounds. In the long term, I think Danny and CBS will deal with it. It is hard to contend for a title while giving many opportunities to opponent offense.

We have to make a trade for Chandler or Bogut. Chandler is averaging 13 rebounds per game in just over 28 minutes, and Bogut is averaging nearly 11 rebounds per game in 25 minutes. If we can't land Boogie or another star, this is when we use Zeller's contract for salary purposes. Do it Danny.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Lack of rebounding is definitely hurting this team and the team defense.

Anyone know the shooting % allowed on the first shot of a possession vs. the shooting % allowed on the 2nd chance shot after the other team is allowed the rebound?

While Horford coming back would help, I think the team still needs a true big man garbage man off the bench.  Not a huge price, give up lot of cap space and future pieces guy.  A simple workman who should be playing that 18-25 minute a game.

Like I said above, that guy can be Bogut. He can defend. He can rebound. He expires this summer and we can probably ink him to a deal for maybe 2 years or something at a relatively low cost. He really can be had, if Dallas keeps struggling.

The Celts need an Ed Davis / Taj Gibson type guy.

This article on offensive rebounds is from several years ago

http://www.82games.com/comm13.htm

An offensive rebound with an immediate shot attempt after the rebound shoot about 50% from the field. While an offensive rebound that leads to restarting the offense is about equal to a normal possession at around 43% FG% (47% eFG%).

Article is a bit old and the numbers are probably different now but I expect the general gist of things is about the same.

Tyson Chandler would be an absolutely perfect fit on this team. He can slot in right next to Horford in the starting lineup and add the rebounding we desperatrly need. I'd much rather have Amir replacing Zeller off the bench as well. Ainge has always had a pretty good relationship with the Pheonix office so I think he could get something done there. I'm sure Chandler would rather compete as opposed to fading away in mediocrity as well.

Zeller + young + a second for Chandler.

Nice,

I am just curious about the Celtics numbers this year though.

That's like $1 to these guys. Not much incentive.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

So basically you want chandler for nothing.  Okay.

Completely agree.

I don't want to hear people defending the C's lack of rebounding.

You practically see it unfold on the TV. Other teams get offensive rebounds fairly easily, the Celtics throw up shots, miss and the opposing player immediately snatches it up. I'm friends with a Lakers fan who notices that too and tells me "man you guys lack size overall, even with Horford". He's not wrong either.

Even with Horford and Crowder back, it won't solve the problems automatically.

You add Horford, but lose Sullinger, and add the fact that Zeller and Jerebko have played worse than usual, then as you said, yuck.

Chandler is a guy they should have targeted pre-season. But Ainge/Stevens seem to have a certain mindset that keeps them from signing or procuring big guys who can rebound. Big guys in the middle who can defend. They want more versatility in bigs--perimeter shooting, pick and role, etc. Apparently, they think they can win without rebounding. Well, it's becoming apparent they are wrong.
