I thought Brown defended Lebron much better than Smart.  Wouldn't have thought that going in.

Brown needs to stay in the starting lineup... Shows incredible toughness on the boards and is able to put back some O-boards and get tot the line...

plus imagine Crowder off the bench ... the second unit needs a bigger kick even with Smart back

Brown played ok. Which makes you wonder what it would be like if Brown played very well. Once the game slows down for him, he's going to really show something.

I was all for Brown, because, unlike so many posters here, I don't think I know better than Danny does.

Kid should be special.

I would take him over Ingram right now.

We haven't had a superior athlete on the wing in a looooong time, to the point I can't even think of who it would be (Pierce was never a great athlete and Ray's athleticism had faded a bit). Maybe Gerald Green, haha, but Brown seems far more composed.

When Jaylen puts it together he's going to give us a dangerous extra dimension. And he's putting it together faster than I'd expected. That one-handed rebound last night was sick.

I actually kind of agree with this. Maybe that's an overreaction to small sample size, but it's hard to imagine Ingram stepping up vs the king like Brown did last night.

You are underrating Pierce's athleticism especially during his younger days.

The one compliment I havent heard Lebron say about rookies is "strong"

Brown must be really strong for his age. Can you imagine in a year or two how much stronger he will be. Definitely has the frame to fill out.

Yeah it's funny because matched up against Lebron he looked like a twig.

Jaylen sure did look like a twig...

Yeah I think Pierce was pretty athletic, throughout, but especially at a young age.  In the realm.  But I think Brown is a step above for sure.

My basic analysis on Brown so far

Offense
- His shooting form from three changes, but they have gone in (so far). If the form becomes more consistent, so will the results.
- He looks like he does not want to force the issue on offense (maybe he learned his lesson at Cal), but sometimes I wish he would.
- His postups and drives both look they have elite potential, and are currently above average.
- His passing has been good for the forward spot. He makes good reads in the natural flow of the offense. As he gets more aggressive, more defenders will have to commit to him, which will give him the ability to get more dimes.

Defense
- On ball he does a good job moving his feet, using his strength, and contesting shots.
- Off ball he is mostly terrible. He does not help the team defense much. He loses his man on rotations too often. He does not box out (even though CBS has him at PF some of the time and we need him to).
- He plays passing lanes well when he is not lost in the defensive rotations.
- Rebounding is meh. He looks tentative, especially on defensive rebounds. This is especially frustrating because it is the one place that he could really use his athleticism.

Intangibles
- His confidence is high right now, but I think it is relatively fragile in-game. If he misses one time down the court, I notice that he doesn't look for his shot the next time automatically. There have been times where he had an opening but ignored it, reset the offense to Thomas, and forced Thomas to create late the shot clock.
- He hit two big three pointers in the 3rd quarter last night, which means he was ready to make big shots

Overall, I really like the kid. I think the "Jaylen Brown" archetype probably is something like an Iggy-Derozan mix.

Good summary, I think. He has Derozan's killer instinct and Iguodala's tenacity and versatility. He has better hands than either. Like the big stars, he's not afraid of the big moment.

Here is a fun comparison, though I'm aware the sample space is incredibly small:

Jaylen's per 36 min stats in 5 games:
16.7 PTS, 4.0 REB, 1.5 AST, 1.8 STL, 1.1 BLK, 1.1 TUR

Pierce's per 36 min stats in his rookie season:
17.4 PTS, 6.8 REB, 2.5 AST, 1.8 STL, 1.1 BLK, 2.5 TUR

Of course Pierce got 34 minutes per game, almost twice as much of Jaylen. But we have right to hope Jaylen might become something special. I mean, he might have trouble as the season progresses, being a rookie and all; but he will also get used to the game speed and "having too much space to operate", quoting his words.
