The reaction on this board, you'd think an all star was coming back. I mean it's crazy to say he's a role player right? Well look below.

Per 36 Min last year, he averaged 12 points a game, shot 25% from three, 35% from the field, 4 assists, and 5 boards.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smartma01.html#per_minute::none

Smart didn't even make the list for defensive rating here last year.

http://www.foxsports.com/nba/stats?season=2014&category=ADVANCED&group=1&sort=5&time=0&pos=0&team=0&qual=1&sortOrder=0&opp=0

He was 93 in Defensive Win Shares last year

http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2015_advanced.html

He was 169 in win shares

http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2015_advanced.html

Just facts I thought I would share since we've clearly been missing Smart, lol. We're 2-1, Chicago got hot or we should be 3-0. But hey, Some people are saying he's going to be an all star, so let's see what he has. He shouldn't post these stats again if he is going to be the difference maker everyone claims he is.
do you not think he's one of our best defenders?

Yes if not the best. However if his offense doesn't improve significantly he is nothing more than a role player which is what I have continously said rozier needs to beat this year. He's doing fine statistically. It's clear he can shoot statistically. Smart is better at defense, but rozier can spread the floor. They both seem to be on the same level to me. That's all I've been trying to say.

I don't see smart as an all star as others have suggested.

I think you're underselling the impact that Marcus brings. The man just brings to the game that don't show up on stat sheets. It's crazy to me how the team can look lost and then Smart comes in and everything runs smooth. Really can't explain it but there's nothing that could convince me that he doesn't impact our ability to win in a big way.

Why does everyone thread on Rozier or Smart need to become a competition? Stop being jealous that more than one player can have an impact on a team

I see Smart being an All Star once or twice just like I know AB will make and All Star team. Jeff Teague made one.

I only bring it up because as you can see in page one, Rozier is being undersold. I don't like Rozier being criticized when this is year 2, and he should be given every opportunity to prove himself as a player, just like Smart has. I like both players honestly, and I see them being the same level of player eventually. Rozier will be better on offense while Smart will be better on D.

His intangibles are great. So is his BBIQ. I was saying these things his rookie year, but he statistically was worse last year than his rookie year. That is an issue. His intangibles and hustle will only get him so far if he doesn't improve. Lets hope he does, but he didn't shoot well in the preseason either. I already got burned by him because I lost an argument with Lbbrd during his rookie year who compared him to Tony Allen. If he continues this trajectory and doesn't make a big jump, that is who he will be. Let's not forget Tony Allen could get to the paint.

You must be reading the wrong thread.

Yeah, someone is just a little butt hurt that his boy Rozier has looked incredibly average so far - you know, just as many of us non-exaggerating fans of Rozier predicted. I can't wait until Smart comes back and puts an end to that whole ridiculous narrative.

Lol I never said he was an all star. And I'm not but-hurt. I've been happy with his shooting. Looks like a rotational player to me, just like Smart. He's not a starter, just like Smart isn't.

Please remember I don't take anything to seriously. This is a forum and I'm hiding behind a keyboard. I can say whatever I want and it will never come back to me because this isn't reality. So relax, we're having a discussion because I'm bored at work.

Also, I recall you saying trained for MMA. I just thought it was funny because in reality, if we ticked you off enough, you could probably beat all of us up if you wanted to.

Naw, that was 5+ years ago. I'm fat and out of shape anymore. I probably couldn't go thirty seconds in a scrum without having a heart attack anymore lol

On a serious note, if anyone is ever looking to lose weight and wants a fun exercise to complete while doing so, start training in Brazilian ju jitsu. It's a full body exercise that will just melt weight right off of you.

I'd love to get back into ju jitsu, but it's just hard to find time with kids.

It sounds like fun, but I think it would be more satisfying to do ju jitsu with adults.

Smart and Rozier were the guys to keep. Olynyk is not being extended, indicating Zeller, Amir and Olynyk will probably not be around next year. That means a completely revamped front line around Horford. The sooner the better. Another rebounder up front would put this team into the thick of things.

Maybe Noel. I see Grant just got traded by Philly  to OKC for Ilyasova. I guess that means Saric will play a bigger role up front. Still can't see Embiid and Okafor playing next to each other.

do you not think he's one of our best defenders?

One of the best defenders, yes - on a team that is stacked with good defenders and desperately lacks/needs scoring and rebounding.

I would say that Smart is a top 5 defender on this team - along with Bradley, Crowder, Horford and Amir.

I definitely rank Smart below Bradley and Crowder, so that puts him (IMHO) between the 3rd and 5th best on the team.

The problem is that all the other guys I just mentioned are good at more then just defense.  Bradley can score and defend.  Crowder can score and defend.  Amir can rebound and defend.  Horford can score and defend and is a top 5 passing big in the NBA.

For Smart however, defense is the only thing he does at an above average level.  His next best talent is playmaking, where calling him 'average' would be generous.

People were bagging the hell out of Rozier for his mediocre stats so far. Smart's stats today?

7 points
5 rebounds
5 assists
1 steal
1 block
6 turnovers
2-8 (25%) FG
1-6 (16.7%) 3PT
2-4 (50%) FT
33 minutes

Rozier's stats so far:

6.25 points
3.0 rebounds
2.3 assists
1.0 steals
0 blocks
0.75 turnovers
45% FG
40% 3PT
50% FT
21.0 minutes

So, why are we bagging on Rozier's apparently poor stats again?

Oh, right - Smart's stats today aren't allowed to be judged because he's been injured, right?  I've heard this one so many times that I'm sure it's going to be the next point raised.

Yeah, we definitely need a rebounder to play alongside Horford.  Preferably somebody who can do some damage down low and get to the line at a high rate too, but at the very least a rebounder.

I wouldn't mind Noel.  Wouldn't mind Monroe.  Probably other guys out there who would suit too.

Per 36 Min last year, he averaged 12 points a game, shot 25% from three, 35% from the field, 4 assists, and 5 boards.

Smart didn't even make the list for defensive rating here last year.

He was 93 in Defensive Win Shares last year

He was 169 in win shares

Just facts I thought I would share since we've clearly been missing Smart, lol. We're 2-1, Chicago got hot or we should be 3-0. But hey, Some people are saying he's going to be an all star, so let's see what he has. He shouldn't post these stats again if he is going to be the difference maker everyone claims he is.
do you not think he's one of our best defenders?

I've heard this one so many times that I'm sure it's going to be the next point raised.
whoa whoa whoa.

I must have missed people baggin on Rozier's stats.

People said Rozier's play has been dissapointing and that we miss Marcus Smart.

I dont see any problem with that Marcus Smart today made several big time plays including several big defensive plays he wasnt credited with steals for.

He drew a couple offensive fouls and ended up icing the game with a clutch bucket.

Marcus Smart is a massive x-factor. You dont judge his stats because what he brings to the team is so obviously greater than his stats.

Smart was +5 Rozier was -2.

I like them both.  I have always liked Terry but if you play fantasy basketball you arent gonna be a big Marcus Smart guy. If you like winning basketball you are gonna like him a lot.

He clearly has a big impact on the team. a player, I think Jaylen Brown said this week that they felt Chicago bullied them but no one bullies Marcus Smart. I think that could well be true.

I believe hes a better defender than Crowder but even if hes not. AB was voted the best defensive gaurd in the NBA last year and Crowder was 1 vote away from being 2nd team all defense.

If Marcus is 3rd on the team hes can still be spectacular
