Good news for us! Smart being back should greatly improve our bench play, along with our versatility at the end of games. And apparently he looks 100% and like he hasn't lost a step. Supposedly shined in practice today, so hopefully he can start where he left off in the preseason.

I see small ball in our future.  ;)

I'd like to think that this will help our rebounding, but considering how well Rozier and Bradley have been rebounding, I doubt it.  At least he should shore up our second unit ball handling and help our perimeter D get back to where it should be

I can assume Green is now going to fall out of rotation.
Its going to be interesting to see how minute distribution of the bench well change.

Green/Jerebko are both there at the borderline. Hope they don't choose to decrease Brown's playing time. Rozier's minutes might see some impact, but we'll see.

Terry Rozier said Marcus Smart played with the first unit today at practice. "He looks like he hasn't lost a step."

Y'all think this means anything? That Marcus practiced with the starters today? I wonder if it means Amir goes to the bench...he has been less than decent thus far. 3 guard lineup vs the bulls? interesting stuff.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Probably not.  In practice they break into two teams, A team and B team. So with 14 healthy bodies, each side should have 7.  Marcus is the "6th starter" so it stands to reason he'd practice with the starters.

I do think Smart will be on the court at the end of games instead of Amir (or Brown.)

Possible vs that match up I suppose, but when Stevens was going with seemingly a legit rotation in pre-season he went to Marcus off the bench at SF early.  I think that might just be why.  I'd expect Amir to start and Smart to get minutes early at SF and Crowder at PF, Horford at C.

Nah, that'd kill our rebounding anymore, especially against the Bulls. Don't like that rebounding matchup of Gibson versus Crowder.

The reaction on this board, you'd think an all star was coming back. I mean it's crazy to say he's a role player right? Well look below.

Per 36 Min last year, he averaged 12 points a game, shot 25% from three, 35% from the field, 4 assists, and 5 boards.

Smart didn't even make the list for defensive rating here last year.

He was 93 in Defensive Win Shares last year

http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2015_advanced.html

He was 169 in win shares

Just facts I thought I would share since we've clearly been missing Smart, lol. We're 2-1, Chicago got hot or we should be 3-0. But hey, Some people are saying he's going to be an all star, so let's see what he has. He shouldn't post these stats again if he is going to be the difference maker everyone claims he is.

Part of it is perception left over from last year I think.

Last year it seemed that our starters often played the other team "even" and it was our deep bench that would dominate the other team's bench to get the win. That's probably not accurate but it at least seemed that way. That's why guys like Olynyk, Turner and Smart were in the top 100 of the real plus/minus. This year, at least so far, it feels backwards. The starters are generally doing well against the other starters but it's the backup units that have looked bad. Our bench isn't performing well and we know Smart can make a substantial impact on that unit.

We have been missing Smart. We're missing his intensity. We're missing how he disrupts the opposing team. Much like we're missing Olynyks ability to stretch the floor for the 2nd unit to open up better lanes for Rozier and more open looks for JJ.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Yeah, someone is just a little butt hurt that his boy Rozier has looked incredibly average so far - you know, just as many of us non-exaggerating fans of Rozier predicted. I can't wait until Smart comes back and puts an end to that whole ridiculous narrative.
