If they explicitly send the message "if you work hard and you improve yourself and you work hard every day it will be seen and recognized" then I'm ok with it.
If the theory is "We try to keep whoever we think has the most potential" I am not ok with that.
Hunter didn't get better at ball handling, didn't get any bigger, nor did he improve his woeful shooting. You can make the same case for Hunter just as you can for Young, although Young came into camp with noticeable body differences, and certainly wasn't getting pushed around as easily as last year.
I know most people don't like Young, but I think he still has plenty of room to grow, and it would be a waste to just let him go like that.
