He has that special something that will make him a top competitor on top of his natural talent.

Is that special something not playing a real NBA game yet?

Let's see what you say about that a year from now. He's already shown in a few preseason games that he has grit and the high level of competitiveness and fearlessness to go along with his immense talent.
I said on an earlier thread that Embiid was the best player drafted since Anthony Davis was taken.  TP to you for one upping me on the Embiid fandom.

It comes down to Davis or Embiid for me.  If Embiid makes it through this season healthy, I'd choose Embiid.  Today, I'd choose Davis.

Well played. A tp for you sir.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I don't think there's any justification whatsoever for saying Embiid is the better player than Towns. He possibly could be, but it's very premature to say anything of the sort before he actually plays starter minutes in a real NBA game.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I'll go on record saying that I think Davis, Towns and Embiid combine for zero NBA titles.

Lebron James is the one transcendent all-time great in the league today. I'm more into the instant rebuild approach.

I didn't say Embiid is a better player than Towns now.  It is a projection based on what I saw of them in their single college seasons and their limited NBA experience.  I think Embiid can be dominant both offensively and defensively.  I think Towns can be dominant offensively but not defensively.  Maybe Thibs' coaching will make a big difference and I'll have to reassess but for now I'll stick by my projection (with the usual Embiid health caveat).  Hopefully both of them will be battling it out for MVP for the next decade.

Only if one or both of them are on the C's.  ;)

That would definitely be preferred.  However I can't stand this small ball, 3pt chucking era so I'll be happy if they dominate the league whichever team they are on except Lakers of course.    ;D

What instant rebuild approach?  Wait until you get lucky via trade (Celtics 2008) or wait until 3 stars choose your team to form a super team (Miami 2010)?  I prefer the GSW approach rebuild through the draft and rub it in via trade.

As for Davis, Towns and Embiid, you might want to caveat that by saying on their current teams.  There is nothing to stop them from forming super teams of their own when they become UFAs.

The "build around Lebron and become instant contenders" approach.

That definitely works in the short term but he has a lot of mileage on his body.  More than 2 full seasons of playoff games (199 games).  It will be interesting to see how long he can remain at an elite level.

Titles are what matters. All things being equal, I think Lebron gives a better shot at a ring than any other player, and I don't think it's close.

I agree that titles are what matters.  Lebron certainly is the best right now and would make the most impact.  However I think adding Anthony Davis to our roster would still make us championship favorites but over a longer timeline.

Towns based on projected growth, rookie deal.  kid looks like a real promising prospect and stands to be under team control for almost a decade (rookie deal, resigning to second deal for max money).

Lebron is still the top player in the game and can carry any roster to a playoff birth but he could bail at any time and you're then left with nothing.  he's also got a lot of mileage and is not a spring chicken anymore.  he only has a limited time left to play

I'm surprised at how big a margin Towns has over Anthony Davis in this poll. Why do people rate Towns so much higher than AD?
