IMO one of DA's worst moves in recent years, letting Gigi Datome walk!  He loved playing for Boston and it was mutual for the fans.  He was a poised professional, and most importantly the best 3 pt shooter we've had since Ray Allen.  He would have cost almost nothing to sign.
Now here we are desperately looking for a "knockdown" shooter!  Really!  While Gigi certainly wasn't any great shakes on D, he wasn't terrible, and I believe at least no worse than several players that will make our current roster.
He would have been great coming off the bench for some offensive firepower.  Saw his name somewhere in the media saying he would be staying in Europe this season, but I wonder if a call from the Celtics might change his mind.
Actually I'm thinking a bench that included Gigi, Abdel Nader, Zizic, and Yabusele would be alot better than what we're probably going into the season with.  Maybe next year?!

Noooo! :)

He is currently playing for Fenerbahçe, the team I support here. He is a very talented player in European standards, also hard working, and has a great character. His net earning in Fener is 1.7m euros a year, so an equal contract in USA would be around 2m dollars plus income tax.

But, he multiple times stated he wants to play in a competitive team AND be an important player. He already rejected higher contract offers from other teams, because Fenerbahçe is last year's Euroleague finalist, and coach Obradoviç is the best European coach ever (8 European titles). So it is unlikely he will wear green and white again for a bit more money to be a bench player. By the way I was sorry when he left Celtics, but he fortunately ended up here.

I'm an Italian C's fan and I appreciate a lot Gigi, not only as a player but also as a man, he seems such a good guy...but imho, Jerebko is still better than him in almost any regard so it would be a wasted spot, considering how many rotation players we have at the forward. He's good at shooting and has good BBIQ, but that's it, talking about NBA-level skills; about defense, he can't really guard anyone (SF too fast for his feet, PF too strong for his frame). I wish him the best and I would be happy for him playing again in NBA but I feel like a top-tier Euroleague team is where he can show his best
