Where would Jaylen get drafted today?

If Jaylen had been drafted by the Suns, would anyone here still be calling him a future star ?

If Boston had taken bender, would people here be convinced he was the best player in the draft ?

Or what if we had traded down and selected Buddy Hield. Hield generally would excite the fanbase with his shooting and then adding more assets would only further everyone's excitement.

Simmons IMHO is still the top talent, but given Philly's past history the injury may be enough to scare them off.

Given how Dunn dominated the D-League and how Hield is killing it in preseason, I'd imagine both of those guys go top 5 - as would Brown, who has been quietly solid in both tournaments so far.

Chriss has played well in Sacramento, so he'd probably in the top 5.

Jamal Murray has been decent in both leagues - lacks upside and still looks like JJ Reddick 2.0, but that's probably good enough to get him in the top 5.

Taurean Prince has looked pretty solid. 

So, given that Ingram and Bender are playing like hot garbage and look like they'll spend the next year or two in the D-League, my top 6 would probably be something like...

1. 76ers select Khris Dunn
2. Lakers select Ben Simmons (he'd fit in with Clarkson, Russell and Randle)
3. Celtics select Jaylen Brown (Ainge seemed to really like him)
4. Suns select Marquese Chriss (they really wanted a PF)
5. Wolves select Buddy Hield
6. Pelicans select Jamaal Murray

Or if the Sixers decided to roll then dice on Simmons...

Dunn seemed to be the closest thing to a 'consensus #3' after Ingram and Simmons, and both the Lakers and Sixers could use a player like him (very athletic pass-first PG and a gritty defender) so in the event that Ingram or Simmons dropped out of the top 3 for whatever reason, I feel Dunn would have been the guy to jump up and benefit from it. 

Chriss looks WAY better then Dragan Bender right now (as in, not even close) so in hindsight I imagine the Suns would have taken him at 4 and Bender would have dropped who knows where to - maybe somebody still takes him in the top 10 based on potential alone.

Have the Suns been playing in Sacramento?

Too early to draw any real conclusions, but here's my quick take on the draft class just for fun:

Jaylen: better than advertised, smart (on-court) player, high motor which I wasn't sure of
Chriss: exceeding my expectations, plays with a chip, better finisher than advertised, alien leaping ability
Bender: will never be an NBA rotation player.  I had him at #20 on my draft board and I think he's likely just not NBA talent.
Zizic: could easily be the steal of the draft.
Hield, Dunn: as advertised
Ingram: he's acclimated a little slower than Brown due to physique

I wouldn't be so quick to say the Sixers would take Simmons #1, knowing that he would be out for a year with a broken foot. They seem very much like a team that is tired of rebuilding and was hoping to actually start producing this season. I'm not saying they wouldn't still take Simmons, but I think they would have to seriously consider going in a different direction. With that said, if they were going to do anything different, I'm assuming they go with Ingram, LA takes Simmons (even with the broken foot), and we still get Brown.

Most pre-draft mocks had Jaylen going 8th.  The players in the 3-8 range were seen as interchangeable prospects.  Some mocks had us taking Marquese Chriss at #3.  He went 8th.   Had Boston taken Chriss at #3 and Brown had been taken #8 as widely expected, nobody would have been all that surprised.   So before you start declaring Jaylen is the top pick in the draft after a couple preseason games, you might want to start by comparing him to Marquese Chriss.

Chriss is averaging 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 1.3 steals with 44% shooting

So maybe Jaylen goes 8th and Chriss goes 3rd... or more likely, this conversation is ridiculous right now since we haven't seen any of these rookies play an actual NBA game yet.

Having  watched every SL game and every preseason game for both teams, I'd say Jaylen and Chriss have performed about equally.  Both are solid NBA players, at a minimum, and both have high upside.  I rate Jaylen higher, personally.  There's a case that Chriss should've gone 4th.  Time will tell.   Of course the whole convo is ludicrous in the blogosphere.

If we're gonna judge projects like Brown and Ingram and Bender, they we have to be especially harsh on an "NBA ready" guy like Dunn, who thus far has looked pretty bad in preseason (I think I read somewhere he's like 5/27 shooting in 3 games?).

I think Bender is the player who drops the most but Dunn would had been an easy pick at 3 over Brown.

I still like Brown a lot but Dunn showed some flashes of greatness already.

None whatsoever in preseason thus far.

He was horrible last night.  Heild also.   It's tough to judge with such a small sample size but I would definitely say that Dunn's preseason struggles are more significant than his summer league domination just based on the level of competition.

I don't see any major pieces of information that we have now that we didn't have on draft night that would change anything.

It's not as though anybody drafted outside the top 5 has looked like a worldbeater.  I think the Celts would still taken JB at #3 after Simmons and Ingram.  It's way too early to know if that was the best choice.

Can you stop stewing? Man you're such a buzzkill. We love Jaylen Brown here. He's the next Jordan. I can't wait for him to run over that stick you call Ingram. Oh by the way, he's athletic enough to block Simmons. Heard here first! LB thinks Jaylen's a bust!
