Heraing DA said it and seeing this comment from IT:

“Someone who can put the ball in the basket. A knockdown shooter would be what we need. I’m not saying anything against the guys that are on this team right now, because we have a talented group, but I think that is the most important thing we need. We need spacing, because we got a lot of guys that can create and attack the basket, but we definitely need spacing.”

got me thinking who could we trade for to be our starting SG?

The first name to cross my mind was Devin Booker for the Suns. The kid got it all; shooting, length, got so much potential and upside and it seems he has the right mind setup... now I know hes not there yet, it's a small samplesize because he only played one season, but... what if DA's got crush on him, thinks highly of him as a future all star... would DA trade BKN '17 or '18 pick for him? Would you do it?       

(this of course would be before the trade deadline in february after Booker averages 20 ppg with 40% beyond the arc)

Booker is not being traded, the Suns have already pretty much kept him out of rumors, and blatantly stated he is part of their future or core. If anything Knight is on the block.

And Booker is a great player, and I think he'll have a great future, but 17 or 18 pick? Nah, no thank you. I'm saving those picks for when Cousins eventually, and he will, go on the trade block.

If there is any knock down shooter the Celtics should go after, its either Bradley plus some picks/filler/sweetners for Middleton, or see what the Hawks want for Korver when the trade deadline is close.

I think Booker is going to be a good player. But I don't see where he helps this team right NOW. Your entire post was about spacing. Booker plays SG and SF. He shot 34% from the 3 last year. Bradley shot 36%. Crowder, prior to his injury, was shooting 35%. Both are better on defense. So I'm not sure how Booker helps make this team better NOW and I'd rather see if we can hit a home run on the Brooklyn picks rather than use them on Booker. If I saw Booker as a home run then I'd consider doing it. But I don't so I'd rather not use those picks if it doesn't help the team now and it's not massive improvement for later.

Maybe the knockdown shooter should be a guy who can be plugged into a sixth man role and hit some dagger threes to put a game out of reach in the late third or early fourth quarter.

yeah he wanted to come, but we had no interest apparently. i think dudley said in an interview that he told them that he was interested, but they never got back to him

Exactly maybe KO and Jerekbo get on a few more streaks. If they can get clicking and better integrated into the lineup thanks to Hordeford that is space.

Booker is almost untouchable.  In related Suns news, Marquese Chriss looks good in the preseason and Bender still stinks.  Chriss' leaping ability is really something.

personally i'm glad at least someone in the organization has acknowledged that the shooting has not improved from last season.

really we should try to pry korver from Atlanta's dead hands.

I wouldn't be surprised if Klay Thompson got frustrated with his role in Golden State. If that happens, we could swap him for Avery and a prospect, maybe.

From the eye test he seems to be doing just fine there. He's still shooting a lot and playing in the role he was in last year.

And you'd need a lot more than that to get him, if he were ever available. They're trying to win now. If they move Klay they'll want players who can come in immediately and help immediately. A prospect doesn't do anything for them. KD doesn't wanna play with Avery and prospects, if he did he would have signed with us.

Unless Roze steps up, the PG position is probably our worse shooting group as far as knockdown goes. We don't really have PGs after IT4, Roze and Smart are 2G. If IT4 was taller he would be considered a SG too.

Swapping Sully with Horford makes us a better shooting team by default. We may not have Klay level shooters but we are better than last season by Horford alone. If Green shoots in the mid 30s from 3 that's better than the nothing we got from Young, Hunter, and Turner last season.

It is clear we have a shooting problem. We are close to dead last in some long distance shooting categories, and that happens with a good coach. Some shooting, especially in the backcourt is needed.

On a related note, I have recently read in Ringer that we don't have an exclusive shooting coach. Some teams have and see the benefits. Does anyone think it is a problem?

It's possible that Gerald Green can , at least in part, fill that role. He did a great job at it in Phoenix, he can do it here reunited with IT.
