Just wondering if anyone knows whether Ziziz could come across if we had a couple injuries to bigs? Cap hit? Roster spot? How does it work?

P.s loving his Zeller-esque-but-more-athletic early season vids from Cibona, but I'd love to see some defensive end clips if some has the resources and inclination...

I'm pretty sure we kept his rights for this year (didn't sign agreement to remove cap hold). I think Yabusele is like this as well. I do think though it'll have to wait until his season over there is over.

Now my info is from back in July, haven't been paying much attention to what has happened since then. But back when we did our final REAL signings (Zeller, etc.), we still retained their rights for this season... part of why we renounced Gigi Datome's Bird Rights.

All that said, I rather not sign them this year regardless of our roster situation. Don't start the rookie clock yet.

DA has some tough decisions to make next year.
I hope we get more successes trading our secondary guys.

None of the sites that tend to have up-to-date contract information that I've checked show the Celtics retaining any cap holds for 2016-17.   None.   In particular, no cap holds for either Yabusele or Zizic.

That is a very strong indication that the Celtics did indeed have each file letters with the League indicating that they will not sign an NBA contract until after this season.

This was almost certainly done as part of clearing max cap room to give Danny max flexibility for any FA/Trade moves.

So no, neither Zizic nor Yabusele is likely to play in a Celtics jersey until next Summer League, at the earliest.

I don't think there are very many tough decisions.  Without trades I wouldn't expect Green, Young, Hunter, Mickey, or Zeller back next year and wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson, Johnson and Jerekbo elsewhere either.

Lots of roster spots available next summer for the draft and stashes this year, new rookie next year, and any free agents brought in.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I'm surprised he's not on the team this year. I would rather have him over Mickey or RJ.

He'll get a lot more minutes where he is, then at the end of C's bench.

How does Adractic League competition compare to D-League?

The Celtics kept their cap hold on him (that's why they used Bird rights on Zeller, meaning he can't be traded until Jan. 15).  While they technically would have to wait for him to finish his season, he could certainly be bought out before then.  The same is true of Yab.

Depending how much rookie scale contracts increase in 2017 with a new CBA, it may make sense to try to bring either over this winter.

Even if he's eligible to be brought over this year, would you? He's 19 years old and getting heavy minutes (and I assume solid coaching) in one of the best leagues in the world. I'm inclined to let him cook for another 1-2 years at least.

Are Yabu and Zizic still on the cap even though they are both playing in other countries? I know that the C's signed Zeller with bird rights, but I thought they cap hold went away once they started playing for someone else.

DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

You'd be wrong. Unless stated otherwise, it was widely reported they kept their rights for the season. It's the reason that Gigi Datome was renounced, and why even though he was renounced, Zeller was signed using his Bird Rights instead of using cap space.

This is not something I'm assuming. It was something that was reported.

Last I recall, once the season begins their cap hold gets removed (as long as they're signed with another league), but once that league's season ends, their cap hold comes back. Something along those lines.

That's a very good point I hadn't considered, particularly with early rumblings that the CBA has some agreements already (or on their way to) having a big increase in 1st round scale contracts.

TP Salt, that is a great point. As you both have stated, it may be prudent to get Zizic into our system if we are truly saving that much money. I don't believe any numbers have been publically disclosed about what the increase would be correct?

Also Zizic looks like a quality effort rebounder. He has the size to not be pushed around, and as of right now he looks to have a nose for the ball. I am pretty confident that Horford's rebounding percentages will increase, but having someone like Zizic on the bench to bring in when we get killed on the boards might be a huge advantage.

It would be like having a not-chubby Sully who doesn't have footwork in the post, but is taller and wont be jacking up no business 3s.

So, this is tough to pin down, but the level of play in the Adriatic League is considered to be ACC-ish. For Europe, it's second tier but it's still pretty good. Right now, Ante is probably getting about the same level of competition that our 2017 first rounder is gonna be getting in college.
