Because he's returning to Cleveland. His agent did the same thing with TT last season.

yeah. its because he wants to stay with the cavs but their owner doesnt wanna pay luxury tax.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

If we end up signing him, I can see Brad doing a Phil Jackson like he did for Dennis Rodman

go apologize to Jae Crowder!

jokes aside, I don't think we are that interested since we have Brown and Green. Makes JR super redundant and we don't have the money to sign him

Smith's Agent using the C's as leverage on Cavs contract....he aint coming here.
That was my take on it
Yeah, there's no way. The C's have to cut players, not take on more contracts.

Would he even be better than Gerald Green? Not happening.
Good point look at contracts and what gerald green would add compared to jr smith.

For a good price I would actually like it but like others I suspect this is all a smoke screen.

It's a lousy smokescreen since we don't have any cap space or roster space, and there's no great way to clear that space.

I agree.  I think like you mention it's going to be like Thompson last year where they play a back and forth game but it is clear he's coming back.

I hope they don't acquire Smith. Too streaky as a player, and a bit of a knucklehead to boot.

This makes me think the Celtics are not too bullish on giving Brown many minutes.

It will be a total bummer if Brown ends up riding the pine.

Obviously we like Green's contract but Smith is starter and key contributor on the championship team.  Green tends to warm the bench on most decent teams that he is on.  There is a big difference in quality of play between the two players.

The article indicated we could offer him $9 MM, but I have no idea how that is possible? That has to be wrong right?

that will most likely not be the case. brad was giving him minutes with the starters in the first 2 games and it was working very well.

It's in the Celtics long-term interest for Smith to resign with the Cavs for four years, 65 plus million.  Anything we can do to facilitate this, I support.

This is Danny Ainge screwing over a conference rival (and chief eastern roadblock to the NBA finals) by giving a player leverage over the rival. Great GMing. It's not just about setting your team up, but its about hurting the other teams too.

Dunleavy has been really injury prone. If the Cavs are planning to give Dellavadova's, Williams, and Smith's minutes to Dunleavy, they will be disappointed. It's not like Irving doesn't have an injury history too.

This is just smart GMing. We don't have minutes for him. We don't have a need for him (especially with Green they are redundant). He doesn't really fit our team. However, if the Cavs have to dish out a 4 year, 50 million dollar deal, that would hurt their team for a long time.

He disappeared in the game I watched at Mohegan Sun. he very well could be a future all star but if he plays like he did in that game it will cost the team wins. I would like to see the Celtics allow Brown to develop but if we sign JR it seems clear to me that they don't want to lose games and prefer to hold Brown back some until ready.
